Great brew scene in San Diego on my visit. An excellent example of a higher alcohol IPA great citrus hop nose and perfect crispness on the finish. I could drink this brew all day long.

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2011 Bottle from Stirchley Wines. Smells great, like a lush meadow. Taste is beautiful, no other word fits. Sweet, piney, resiny, oily, great balance. Wowee.

Slowly I have been getting into IPAs. I never really like them. I feel most beer brewers just add a crap load of hops for the bitter hell of it. Few take to the time to balance the brew. Islander IPA, to me, is very well balanced. Nice and bitter with a super supportive malt backing. Very clean pour with a well built creamy tan head. The smell is very nice. Lots of warm suger, orange, lemon, grass, and pine. Bitter and very rewarding going in leading to a smooth and dry finish. some sweetness with the bitterness. I found no sourness. Lacing is wonderfull. The whole glass is layered in a coating on bubbles. I used to grab one of these while making a sixpack. Now I just get six packs of this. Really enjoyable and SUPER drinkable.

Orange/Copper color. Fluffy white head. Tremendous hop aroma. A bit a sweetness comes through, along with all the hops. Very good IPA.

UPDATED: JUL 1, 2010 Pours pale copper with a sturdy froth that lingers like a downy blanket the whole session. Malty aromas with dusty hops. Medium nectar with Soft effers for a cottony texture. Snappy jagged hops remove the plaque from my pearly whites like a good dentist. A full malt body plays mind games as the hop slayer dances to the last tune. This specimen is strictly for grapefruit rind lovers. I love it!

This is a nice rendition of a California IPA. The pour is clear and has a nice head retention. The color is a wonderful Deep Gold. The nose is that of citrusy hops and a slight hint of spruce. The flavor is extensive hops with just enough maltiness to balance out the flavor profile and spare the palate. The mouthfeel is rich and creamy. A very tasty IPA!!

Pours a mild hazed amber color with a medium lived light beige head. Smell is fruity, piney, and hoppy, and not over the top. Some nice fruity malt character too. Taste is crisply bitter with nice pine and citrus hop flavors. Good maltiness to balance but still plenty hoppy. Full bodied with nice refreshing carbonation. Awesome drinkability and a fantastic, underrated IPA, I thought.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of OCBeerSociety. Thanks Ron! Dark golden, orange appearance with a big white head and nice lacing. Big citrus fruity (mango, passionfruit, grapefruit), smarties, a bit organic, a touch resiny hoppy aroma. Big grapefruit creamy, mango/passionfruit, citrusy flavor, a bit organic, fairly bitter hoppy, yet deliciously sweet IPA. This baby’s a winner.

Blind tasting at Papsø’s
Hazy deep blond color; big creamy head. Good fruity, Simcoe aroma, some sweat, medicinal. Toffee flavor, the strong hopping brings it on the dry side; quite resiny and fruity, bitter orange peel, digestive. Strong, powerful, long final. An excellent hop bomb.

A very well-done IPA! This beer is deliciously balanced and extremely flavorful. It all starts with a beautiful dark golden pour with a sticky off-white head. The aroma is filled with hops, earth, grapefruit and pine. The body is very smooth and dangerously drinkable. Hops are, of course, at the forefront of this IPA, but are balanced well with a flavorful malty backbone. Some hints of dry grapefruit, spicy hop resin, light earth, pine and rye bread are present as well. The finish features a nice combination of hops and malt, with a crisp and dry mouthfeel.
