4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 Biggs88 (17) - Philadelphia, USA - JAN 7, 2010
Slowly I have been getting into IPAs. I never really like them. I feel most beer brewers just add a crap load of hops for the bitter hell of it. Few take to the time to balance the brew. Islander IPA, to me, is very well balanced. Nice and bitter with a super supportive malt backing. Very clean pour with a well built creamy tan head. The smell is very nice. Lots of warm suger, orange, lemon, grass, and pine. Bitter and very rewarding going in leading to a smooth and dry finish. some sweetness with the bitterness. I found no sourness. Lacing is wonderfull. The whole glass is layered in a coating on bubbles.
I used to grab one of these while making a sixpack. Now I just get six packs of this.
Really enjoyable and SUPER drinkable.

A brilliantly clear golden amber colored ale with a desent size white foamy head. Nicely carbonated too.
very hop forward in aroma with a nice floral and citrus bouquet. Malts are sweet and balance out well.
Taste is citrus hops, pineapple I’d say with a caramel malt bill that balances the hoppy bitterness nicely.
Standard weight on the palette with a fair dose of bitterness at end.
A very desent beer here from top to bottom.

355ml bottle from Kris Wines, London
Pours dark orange with a smooth foamy head. Aroma of caramel malts, mild exotic fruits and notes of glue and solvent. Taste is malty and sweet with mild fruity hops and glueish notes. Finish is sweet and caramely. Perhaps this would be better from a fresh bottle.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 NikkTwist (172) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 1, 2012
Draft. Hazy orange bronze. Fluffy head. Runny lace. Juicy bitter citrus. Some delicate tropical notes. Fuller flavor than most IPAs. Well balanced.

Orange/Copper color. Fluffy white head. Tremendous hop aroma. A bit a sweetness comes through, along with all the hops. Very good IPA.

On tap. Pour is fairly clear copper with a modest fine bubbled off white head in this glass. The nose is tropical fruit, caramel, and biscuits really. The flavor profile has a nice balance of malt and hop profile. The tropical notes come through heavier here, with more caramel and bread. Fruit esters come through. Juicy hop resins are present, but its all a bit subdued.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of OCBeerSociety. Thanks Ron! Dark golden, orange appearance with a big white head and nice lacing. Big citrus fruity (mango, passionfruit, grapefruit), smarties, a bit organic, a touch resiny hoppy aroma. Big grapefruit creamy, mango/passionfruit, citrusy flavor, a bit organic, fairly bitter hoppy, yet deliciously sweet IPA. This baby’s a winner.
