3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 maekchu (1126) - Hirakata, JAPAN - JUN 17, 2013
Bottle from Yamaichi. Medicinal, cinnamon, berries in the nose. Nice reddish brown, nearly no head. Fruity with citrusy hops right up front / mid goes to roastiness, grain, and some spice / final is tangy, with some chocolate and a good bitter finish. Medium body. Interesting take on the normally sedate amber ale style. Has a definite amber backbone, maybe a bit more roasted than most, and chocolatey, too. But the hops really do dominate. Taking a potentially boring style and moving it out a ways.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 ComradeK (749) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - MAY 3, 2013
355ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy copper amber, with a moderate off-white head, which lasts fairly well and leaves decent lacing. Floral and spicy hops, biscuit and roasted malt notes make up the aroma. Peppery, spicy hops up front lead into a touch of caramel malt. Smooth toffee and more robust roasted malt in the mid-palate give it a full-bodied feel, with floral hops joining the sweeter malt flavours in the finish. This is a pleasant ale, with enough robust malt body to support its hops.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Fatehunter (794) - Corbett, Oregon, USA - MAY 1, 2013
Poured a half finger of head on a deep red colored body.
The aroma is a nice blend of dry grain, caramel and lemon.
The taste is watery with a touch of caramel sweetness and a mild bitter note.
The texture is nice and soft with moderate carbonation.
The flavor was the big disappointment here, everything else was good.

22 ounce bottle purchased at Bel Air in Woodland, CA. Aroma is mostly sweet caramel malt. There might be a bit of chocolate malt present as well. Light herbal hop character. Pleasant enough. Transparent amber body with a medium off-yellow head present, which leaves really good lacing. Attractive brew. Starts with a sweet, chewy maltiness. Some nuttiness and some caramel is present. Very smooth, and velvety body. Very light hop and bitterness late. This is a stellar amber ale.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 jbruner (1200) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - APR 7, 2013
Pours a clear copper on tap with a fluffy off-white head and light lacing on the way down. Aroma of piney hops, followed by a nice caramel and toffee malt back. Taste follows, but the hops are muted with a strong malt finish, no real lasting palate notes. Easy to drink and nice, but nothing special.
