4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
I actually thought this was a much better beer than the islander IPA, not sure why this scored so much lower. Pours nice dark red with a white head. Aromas of citrus Cascade hops, crystal malt and roast. Flavor is full and complex with hints of roast and chocolate coming through at the end. Well hopped all the way though with a long clinging finish. One of the best examples of a West Coast American Amber I have ever tasted. Worth the $11.99/6pack price. In stock now at Hops & Vines in Asheville.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
The beer pours a nice clear amber with a slightly off-white head of medium sized bubbles. The bubbles settle to a quarter of a finger’s width above my glass and leaves a nice sticky splotching of lacing. In body the beer is clear and translucent, though darker from its malt; no particles nor haze are present. On the nose, the beer smells decidedly hoppy with beautiful citric and pine scents. A soft touch of caramel and apple juice can be sensed beneath the assertive hop character along with a touch of breadiness. On the tongue, the beer tastes initially bitter, with a sweet finish that doesn’t entirely lose its bitter piney tastes. Soft acidity can also be sensed from the hops. In flavor, the beer begins as prickly pine, swiftly working to citrus juice that slowly blends with a caramel malt and then winds into a nice bready malt while holding onto prickly pine on the sides of the tongue. The finish is of a nice length, and the aftertaste is of citric bitter juice. Touches of apple juice and herbal hop bitters can also be sensed towards the finish of the beer. In the mouth, the beer feels medium bodied with a middling carbonation that provides a fluff and a prickle to the tongue. Mouthfeel is crisp and slightly chewy with middling gelling sense taking place on the middle of the tongue. Overall, this is a nice mildly hoppy amber ale. It has some stranger flavors on the corners of the palate, but I suspect that has to do with age more than anything (its Coronado’s first time shipping to MA). The beer features a nice hop bite and middling malt balance. I could drink a few of these.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Initial strong hop aroma fades to a starchy caramel. Dark amber orange, still. Overall this beer is on the sweet side yet features a very dry bitter middle. Has weight and texture of a stronger beer, papery almost. Okay amber ale, as I say they all are.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Taster on the island. Pours amber (weird?) with khaki head. Aroma is grassy hops, caramel and oranges. Taste is more of that but with more grassiness to it. Caramel helps a lot.

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Whole Foods in Redwood City, CA. Pours a dark orange amber. Aroma is fruity malts, earthy grains. Some bitterness and yes, a bit sweet... but more dirty, earth flavors coming through than I’d care for.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cerveja leve para uma ale, é aromatizada e o sabor não deixa aquele amargo no fim. Boa no geral.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
on draft @ Hamilton’s. Was hoping for more of a hop-forward but with pronounced malt flavor ale, and although this one ticked a number of boxes, the overall flavor and character of this beer is unbalanced and too sweet.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
large creamy frothy offwhite head. good lacing. mostly diminishing. translucent thick dark amber body. aroma: caramel, heavy hoppy, orange, peach-flavored black tea. if: moderate sweet bitter. ff: light sweet moderate bitter; average duration. palate: medium body, watery/oily texture, lively carbonation, metallic finish.
