Tap at Marciero. Nose of orange, coriander, wheat. Nice bready wheat flavor, good citrus flavor, not overdone on the spice. Tasty enough wit.

Bottle. Muddy orange-gold with a short white head. Lots of honey in the nose. Soft yeast and spice underneath along with soft toasted wheat. taste is big honey and citrus with yeast and wheat notes, and light spice. Body is light-medium with a moderate, bubbly carbonation. Very refreshing. Ends with more citrus fruit, yeast, honey, grains, soft spice and orange peel.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle - Orange amber pour with a light haze and a thin foamy off-white ring of head. Nose is doughy yeast with some spicy coriander and citrus that comes out when you swirl the beer in your glass. Taste is pretty meh, with bready malt, mineral, and a touch of orange juice. Dull herbal hops. Thinnish and carbed up. Okay.

September 9th, 2012 - Back in 2012 this was not, as far as I could tell, available as ubiquitously as it is today. Coronado’s bottling efforts have taken off in the last couple of years, and the beer leading the way is the soft, approachable, lighter brews. This includes their Orange Ave Wit, which while not especially exciting or engaging, it makes a good beer to sip after driving around Coronado Island in a car without air conditioning, and only a bottle of brackish San Diego tap water to keep us hydrated. After that kind of treatment, the Orange Ave. Wit was an especially nice treat. The aroma is rich and soil, with that fresh rain muddiness, bolstered by the scents of clove and vanilla pudding. Orange slice adds a citrus outline, with Meyer lemons topping off the aroma like a yellow, citrus garnish. The flavor, somewhat disappointingly, is milder than the aroma. A medium bubbly palate delivers lots of boldfaced, direct tastes of orange, lemon and clove and coriander. It’s a fine assemblage, but doesn’t stand out too much as anything special or unique, or even engaging. There’s a discordant soapy note too that brings the flavor of detergent where it’s neither needed or welcome. So far, if it comes to lighter beers near the Del, Coronado Brewing’s Golden Ale remains a more enjoyable choice.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cloudy golden-orange pour with a thick, creamy, white head that leaves lacing. Bright aroma of orange peel, honey, bread, and wheat. The flavor is a bit too spice and orange peel dominated, and grain is a big presence, although it is quite clean and refreshing. A good balance of sweet, sour, and bitter. This is not a traditional Belgian witbier but it is pretty good for a California Wit.
