Tmoney99 (3503), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Feb 14, 2007 Draft sampler at CBC. Poured black color with a medium creamy light brown head that lasted. Solid roasted chocolate malt aroma. Medium to full body. Solid toasted chocolate malt flavor with a smooth average bittersweet finish of moderate duration. DarkElf (2627), La Jolla, California, USA Jun 7, 2004 (Draft: Coronado Brewing Co. in San Diego, CA) This is my third beer tonight here at Coronado Brewing (plus the Mermaid Red in bottle a few nights ago), and there’s a definite pattern with their beers -- they’re all too damn sweet and sugary with too little malt and hops to counter the sweetness; There is definitely a noticeable and pleasant oatmeal character to this oatmeal stout, but yet again, the sweetness in this beer is too strong and overwhelmes the flavor; The moderately strong and bitter dark roasted flavor is fairly steady from start to finish; The nose is surprisingly tame, being lightly malty, but as you can guess by now, it’s on the sweet side; Black and opaque in color, but a bit ruddy at the edges; Tan head is very small on the pour and is gone almost instantly Vac (2231), San Diego, California, USA Dec 6, 2007 On tap at Hamiltons. Pours with a black body topped by a thick, tan head with lots of lacing clinging to the glass. It’s slightly sweet and creamy with a nice roasted coffee note and an underlying sour note. Full bodied, slightly dry and warming. Angeloregon (1823), Portland, Oregon, USA May 4, 2008 On tap at Coronoda Brewery in Coronado, San Diego, CA--Dark, abysmal body with a thin wispy beige head. Coffee, chocolate, and milkiness in the finish. Quite nice! fordest (1684), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Mar 5, 2007 Draft at the brewery. Very dark with some head. Left nice lacing. Aromas were some chocolate but some metal too. Flavors were better, but still a bit weak.
