4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a deep mahogany with an ample fluffy off white head. Great lacing down the glass.
Smells of caramel, citrus and piney hops and a little bready malt.
Initial flavor burst is heavy in chocolate rounding into some malty caramel flavors with a bitter finish. Dank piney resinous is here throughout.
Mouthfeel is pretty thick and creamy. Lowish carbonation levels.
Very solid brew from one of my favorite underrated brewers. Imperial Reds are my favorite anyway and the subtle hint of chocolate added to this one makes it very unique and tasty.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Burnt toffee, caramel, xmas cake, alcohol soaked raisins a bit of coffee on the nose. Taste is similar with a nice hoppiness stopping it from getting too sweet. Grapefruit at the end, fairly light body, warm alcohol at the end but not rough. Solid beer. Rerate: Iíve just spent more than an hour drinking a tumbler of this while watching Butch Cassisdy and the Sundance Kid with my wife and son. By the time I was lustily singing along to Raindrops Keep Falling, this beer was warm, mellow and open and up there with the best red ales Iíve had the pleasure of having. The taste became a slick, oily, smooth, restorative, spicy red. The alcohol blended perfectly on the finish, and when there was literally no more I wept figurative tears.

I have this as an 8.5% abv beer, and I found that itís a nice balance of the bitter and the sweets, a fantastic colour, even if I couldnít raise a head on the pour. Enjoying this and would have it again if I had the chance.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark muddy brown pour with a generous head. Quite perfumed on the nose. Malts hide the alcohol content and is drier than I expected. Not a beer that can be consumed quickly.

22 ounce bottle. Labeled as Red Devil Imperial Red Ale; Crown series. Translucent reddish brown color topped by a small bubbly beige head. Aroma of burnt caramel, alcohol and greasy doughnuts. Flavor of more burnt caramel, cocoa and espresso beans. Lotís of alcohol flavor, to a fault. Some earthy yeast character at play. Hints of charred wood and bitter hops. Strong bitter finish.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from City Beer. Pours reddish brown with a huge beige head and a fruit and toffee aroma. There is a hearty toffee flavor that is milder than the abv suggests and a tasty dry lingering finish.
