Commercial Description:
The Red Devil is a double dose of our "Mermaid's Red Ale. We simply doubled the ingredients (double the malt, double the hops) and created an award winning Ale. An incredibly balanced and smooth beer with a strong finish.

I had this at their brewpub and a few more times at Hamilton’s. This is an absolute palate demolisher. The alcohol seems to take center stage here with it’s relentless heat backed by a wave of hops stuck together in clumps of sweet, delicious malty goodness. Pretty good, but this stuff will wreck you in a hurry if you overindulge, which I think would be difficult for the most seasoned livers to pull off. This isn’t the beer you’ll crave after mowing a lawn, but maybe after you do some cross country skiing but you can’t really do that here in San Diego, at least anyplace close to where you’ll be able to get one to warm up afterwards. If anyone knows a ski lodge with this on tap, drop me a line.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark reddish amber body with a medium sized beige head. Aroma has alot of sweetness. Malty, mildly fruity, caramel, with some floral notes. The flavor shows a fair amount of caramel malt sweetness, with additional sweetness coming from fruity sensations (citrus, grapes). There is also a touch of bitterness, perhaps associated with the floral hops. Medium bodied, for the most part easy to drink, but a slight acidity peeks in from time to time.

Pours a deep blood red color with a light tan head. Smell is rich sweet malts and lightly fruity and floral hops. Taste is nice rich red fruity and candy sweetness and balanced pleasant bitterness. Some cherry flavor in there. Slightly rich mouthfeel and prickly carbonation. Some light alcohol in the flavor. Not bad.

Courtesy of captaincougar. Hazy dark amber body with a small beige head. The nose is sweet caramel and citrus/floral hops. The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately bitter with astringent crystal malt - ice tea/caramel, grapefruit, floral hops and grapes. Medium body is rough and astringent with moderate carbonation.

22oz bottle, courtesy of CaptainCougar. Thanks, Tom! Pours a dark, ruby color; light-tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Lots of juicy earthiness and citrus fruits in the aroma; oily, juicy, clean fruit-cocktail hoppiness with candy sugar underneath; really nice hop character in the nose. The mouthfeel is a lot maltier than the nose suggests: lots of fruit cocktail, candy sugar, and tea-like malts (very light astringency); relaxed carbonation; pretty sticky sweet and the oiliness of the fruity hops becomes less appealing in the mouth; tea and fruits. Lengthy finish: red fruits, candy sugar, and light tea tannins and sweetness.
