A bit suprised by the low ratings on this one. I had it yesterday at Urge in RB/Poway, and I was very happy with it. Ruby copper pour with off-white head that stayed for a while. Nose and taste is great sweet and clove/nutmeg spiciness. Almost pumpkinny, but not overpowering at all. Sweet malt and warming alcohol taste blend with the spice nicely. Very nice.

An elm colored complexion wraps up the aesthetic part of Coronado’s English Strong Ale. The flavor, syrupy and mildly spicy, is pretty average. This beer is a heavy, dessert style brew, made for, as the title suggests, cold nights and elongated sipping matches. Nothing sticks out as particularly noteworthy, save for the thick consistency. Borderline acceptable.

On-tap at O’briens a few weeks back. Marked as a Spiced Belgian Red. Pours cloudy red brown with a big light brown head and good lace. Smells big and grainy malty sweet and cereal with some spice. Tastes sweet malty and slightly roasty with lots of grains and spices. Medium body, light smooth carbonation.

On tap at O’Brien’s Pub 14th Anniversary Barrel-Aged beer night 1/15.
A- Clear ruby-red hue, thin off-white head quickly dissipates, minimal lacing
S- Nose is full of sweet malts and big wintery spices (think gingerbread cookies), clean & crisp earthy hops too
T- Initial taste is dominated by spices and floral (nutmeg, allspice, ginger), tones of vanilla and wood, light fruits, brown sugar, finishes clean and sweet
M- Medium-bodied, thick texture, high carbonation
D- This beer is loaded with spice, great flavor profile, this borders on the desert/potpourri spectrum leaving it good for sipping in small amounts and difficult to drink in larger quantities
