3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from La Fine Mousse, Paris. Black with a small, creamy beige head. Malty aroma, chocolate, dark fruit, alcohol. Good rich chocolate, more than hints of marcipane and some fruit. A late-night treat for sure.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
33cl bottle from La Cave à Bulles in Paris. Pours a black body with a thin, creamy, dark brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is hard roasts, licorice, currant dark fruits, dark chocolates, and a decent amount of citruses. Flavor is similar. A good amount of citrusy hops with some hard roasts, licorice, dark fruits, dark chocolates, and coffee. Finishes dry, roasty, and pretty bitter with a good amount of licorice before leaving a lengthy aftertaste. Fuller, smooth body and a flat, lighter carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid imperial stout. Roasty and hoppy, but a bit flat on the carbonation. Good beer.

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
My Bottom Line:
Citrusy hops and roasted, nearly burnt malts are transported by intense bubbling, and somewhat bothered by picklish notes in the nose.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the dark brown-hued blackness.
-Citrusy hops and intensely roasted malts aren’t exactly harmonious.
-Flavor profile is a lot more engaging than the aroma.
-Dark chocolate and coffee beans appear here and there.
-The intense carbonation and light vinegar touches in the aroma are probably signs of arising problems...

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Medium sized brown head, changes slowly into a closed lacing on top of a pitch black beer.
Thick smell of liquorice, cream, burned malts, roasted barley malts, light tar, some dark dark chocolate. Very good deep and promising smell.
Taste loads of liquorice/bay leaf and bitters with some tar chocolate, bitter fruit and herbs, dark spices, dark fruits and dak chocolate.
Aftertaste is bitter, roasted malts and roasted grains, tar and dark chocolate.
Low carbo, soft creamy mouthfeel, full body and a creamy oily and thick texture.
I don’t know how many French imperial stouts I have had, but this one might be the best so far.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
First salvo into the Christmas Beers. It’s great to be drinking this by an open fire. Big, complex...all the right noises you would expect for an Imperial. The 100 IBU listed on the bottle has me looking for the bitterness...something is there but not sure its hops. Salut

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
33cl Bottle at UDRBM. Black colour, brown head. Aroma at first a bit absent, later on hard roasted malts, ash, liquorice, berries. Flavour is hard roasted malts, ash, black currant, coffee, light moccha, berries, bitter hard roasted ashy finish. Medium to full-bodied. It’s good, but falls a bit short after the 8 Wired Batch 18.
