2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Pours a nice brown amber with good lace. Citrus and spice mixed with malty palate. Spicy hop finish. Faiint notes of smoke and nuts and raisins. A bit weak on the mouth-feel in my opinion. Had it last year and remembered that I’m usually unimpressed with it compared to Corsendon’s standard pale and brown ales.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750 ml bottle - Habersham Beverage Warehouse, Savannah, Ga. Pours a deep, dark copper color with a thin, but long lasting spritzy off-white head. Aroma has notes of peppermint and tea, but overall, not very aromatic. Flavor is somewhat muted, but not unpleasant, faint nuttiness, some raisins and dates and a bit of fruit cake. Mouthfeel is not as thick as I would like, smooth though and finishes strong, just nothing really jumping out at me as being "Christmassy".

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks to rater Snoot for sending me this beer back in early 2004.
Pours a dark brown with hints of amber body, and a fluffy tan head. The aroma is largely malty, note of chocolate, coconut, brown sugar and toffee. The flavor holds many of those same notions but it also adds a lightly tart note of citrus zest, yeast and dough. The is a nice syrupy sweetness, hints towards molasses with a touch of smoke and burned sugar. Yeahh… it’s a nicely crafted beer but it really doesn’t get me all fired up.

Dark red-brown body. Heavy yeasty aroma. Spicy flavor; slightly sweet and yeasty as well. Bubbly texture, has plenty of carbonation. Lingering aftertaste of spice.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
pours a lightly hazy, deep red with a well formed white head. aroma is richly malty, dominated by a caramelly sweetness. malt is again the dominant flavor note, but it is well balanced with a spiciness that seems to come from everywhere-hops, yeast, and the spice mill. really exceptional flavor. the palate is also excellent, as the spices (and CO2) keep the malt from clinging. amazing drinkability for its size.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very impressive appearance with a large toffee-brown head. Okay aroma and a good fruity flavour, albeit with a lot of alcohol - a bad thing in my book at this still relatively low ABV.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
i decided to open this due to the fact that i got a raise from my boss today.....!!!!
750 ml bottle poured into a duvel glass 1/4 at a time.the first pour brought on a huge 3 inch head that took about 4 minutes to calm down.at first,it appeared a very dark brown.alot like a quad.although when i held it up to light,it was a very nice ruby red.this was a very nice surprise.then, the very first sniff i took was not a nice surprise.it was pretty much a medicinal aroma with a bit of the cork....not to good.now im a bit nervous,i brought the trappist glass up to my lips and recieved.....acid,carbonation,and medicine.is this the "lightly tart" they are talking about?
so i decided to let it sit for a few minutes.(like i did the frist time i had orval)and ya know,it did the trick.
the aroma then balanced out and gave me some spice, yeast, and a sour ending.the flavor was now really smooth.again, the spice came out,the belgian taste, and some malts in the end.if you have not had this.make sure you pour it into a glass,AND LET IT SIT FOR AT LEAST 5 MINUTES.now matter what the temp is,this christmas likes relax a bit before it goes to work.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 Bottle. Pours brown with a large, fluffy tan head that diminishes mostly, shines a beautiful clear garnet-brown color when held to light. Aroma is sweet like brown sugar on fresh dark brown bread with a sprinkling of holiday spices. Flavor is malty sweet with some pleasing tartness as well, yeast, spice and hints of lemon and hops make for a full palate of flavors. Finishes with a lemon-grapefruit and maple. Medium body and gently building carbonation. Nice winter brew.
