3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Spices and raisins on the nose. Pours a dark amber with a light head. Smooth, thick, and as it slowly coats your taste buds. Coffee notes but not from Starbucks, more of a lighter roast. Great beer to sip by the fire.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 26, 2009 750ml bottle: Pours a large, beige, fluffy head well lasting and has a dark amber colour. Nose of malt, dried fruit (apples & citrus) and coreander. Sweet/ sour flavour with liquorice and alcohol with notes of chocolate, claws, nuts and apples. Medium to full bodiet. It has a long sweet/ sour aftertaste with a hint of hops and rowan berries. The balance is to the sweet side but that must be all right, talking about an Xmas ale.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
750mL bottle. Best before end: 01/09/07. A deep ruby body with a HUGE and fluffy khaki head on top. Bananas, cinnamon, pears, cherries and cloves in the aroma. Heavy on the carbonation but a smooth medium body. A very solid malty base that features some chocolate and coffee flavors. A wheaty, fruity, tart finish with just a touch of alcohol. The finish is reminiscent of eating cumquats. Spices, especially cinnamon, are present throughout and are complimented by the high level of carbonation.

Poured an effervescent darkruby with a small fizzy off-white head. Aroma of sweet dark fruit, cinnamon, bubble gum, chocolate, and lemon. Taste is pretty dry and consists of smoked chocolate, figs, ginger, and alcohol. Long dry and smoky finish. Body is decently full but aggressively carbonated, a bit too much for my taste. Pretty tasty and smooth Belgian. My favorites are a little less dry than this.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: Dark amber coloured, thin, firm beige head, lacing; sweet-malty nose, traces of liquorice and coriander(?); sweetish, fruity start, drying out a bit and becoming slightly tart; sweet and a bit bitter flavour; short, malty finish with a distinct bitterness. O.K.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Excellent beer. Nice balance between the sweet intricate malt and the sublte spice. The hops present an earthiness and zippy bitterness that reminds me of Orval.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Mahars. This was an amazing beer. Dark, but not too heavy on the palate, had a great belgian beer flavor with a sweet mollasses finish that really stood out, excellent.

Draught at Tyler’s in Durham, NC. Clear ruby brown color with thin off white head. Smells of floral hops and anise. Anise comes out again in the flavor along with alcohol and a hint of fresh mint leaves. Alcohol flavor lingers in the nose.
