3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours an appealing semi-murky brown. Ginger and. . .allspice? If I cooked more, I might know the name for it. A bit too spicy--without the maltiness of the dubbel, this seems to finish with an unpleasant atringency. If other ratings are true and the larger bottles are better, I'll have to re-rate this eventually.

(draught, wildeman) a small off-white head. A spice beer, bitter, cinnamon etc. but in general failed to impress

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a dark amber/brown with a medium beige head. Thin lacing. Aroma and flavor are warm and spicy. Lots of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, clove, malt and alcohol. This is a tasty beer, and wonderful for the season.

25oz bottle. Very good. I've heard the smaller bottles aren't as good, I'll have to try one and re-rate.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured a browned orange with a medium tan head. Nose seems dominated by spice and a light amount of malt. The taste is spice (allspice, cinnamon, and nutmeg) mixed with sour apple, malt, and perhaps citrus. Seemed too dominated by spice. Good but not as great as I'd hoped. Still a good beer, though.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Good example of how a beer can be malty but not sweet. Little bit of tartness that is the most interesting thing about this beer. Dry Belgian styles are not my favorite, though.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark amber color. Medium white foamy head. Aroma is spicy and malty. A medium bodied Belgian Ale. Malts are fruity, nutty and sweet. Very spicy and fruity. Cinnamon, cloves, plums and orange. Nicely balanced. Lively carbonation. Smooth taste. Hides the 8.5% alcohol very well. A nice Belgian belly warming ale. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I had the 2002 vintage and was greatly looking forward to the experience. It was indeed an excellent beer but not quite spectacular. I was slightly disappointed in the finish, which seemed faintly metallic (almost like blood). There are a lot of complex flavors in this beer; it's rewarding to savor and identify them.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2002 bottling. Interesting malty, fruity and spicy aroma, some dark breadiness and cocoa, with touches of herbal hop, coriander, mint, toffee, and perhaps some faint tangerine. Dark reddish brown color, slightly hazy, with an off-white, settling head. Malty and fruity to start, traits of plum and blood orange, turning sweet and spicy with notes of caramel sweetness, milk chocolate and baking spices, and seeing some peppery alcohol, bitterness and tart citrus added to the mix just in time for the finish. Gently warming, moderate amount of acidity, effervescent on the palate and medium-full bodied. Unique and intriguing flavor development. I had been looking forward to trying this beer for quite some time, a couple of years at least, and was not disappointed. Thanks, Jordan.
