A color that straddles eggplant and plum, underneath a lovely tan head. Intense aromatics: raisins, plums, port, cinnamon, ginger cloves. A generous buzz on the tongue fueled by a great array of hops, and held up by solid malt base. Overall, one gets a feel of holiday breads, cakes ginger cookies. Very tasty, warming, delicious.

Reddish/brown with thin wispy tan lace. Aroma is earthy, dry and somewhat metallic. hard fruit, with spices. Flavors of smoke, apples, raisins and roasted malts. Acidic, citrus finish. This is an average belgian strong. Not as good as I wanted it to be. However, I still like this brewer and the awesome abbey pale ale they make.

While my bottle was perhaps affected by the fact of its December age I think my review will stand. There is more sediment then I have ever seen and while it did not affect the taste it might scare some peole not in the know.It smelled pretty nice and had the crispness I have come to like in Belguim strongs. Yet it had a little bit too much dryness to me. I need it sweeter at this strenth and I could taste the alcohol. Not bad though and as it warmed there was more character. Still there are many beeter ones out there and I wonít buy it again even though I would drink it.

750 ml bottle. Dark brown color with smallish, thin head. Aroma of malt, pepper and cinnamon. Taste had some plum, coriander and roasty toasty. Full bodied with a somewhat lively mouthfeel which was strange considering the appearance.

On tap (12/24/04). Poured a medium to dark brown color with an averaged sized, off white head. Spicy and malty aroma and tastes. A good X-Mas brew.

piney citrus hop aroma, thin brown red body with a huge tan head, sweet fruit flavor, mostly apple, alcohol is well hidden, piney flavor, caramel, some lingering smoke, thereís nothing like a christmas ale in June.

Pours a dark brown amber color with some red hues. Pretty off-white head with very fine bubbles. Aroma is very spicy with malt and smoke in there as well. Flavor is caramel, dark fruit and spice. Body is a little thin but it had a nice long spicy finish. A good beer for sure.

Poured with a huge head, light brown. Nice lacing as the carbonation settles. The aroma was of spice, caramel/malt. Smooth tingly bubbles, slight fruit notes in the finish. Nice brew!

Pours a deep read with a huge tan head. Aroma is earthy and smokey. Flavor is actually kind of bland. I did not get what most raters found in theirs. Its mostly just roasted malts that donít stand out. Maybe its b/c the beer is old, im having this in may. Possible re-rate, iíll give it a second chance next year.
