Borresteijn (1349), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 8, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown colour, creamy beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, chocolate and sweet alcohol. Flavour is soft, dark chocolate, dark fruits, roasted malts and some alcohol. Little metallic hint in the flavours, but not offensive. Oily texture. Not too sweet, very well balanced. 17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 30, 2008 [07 bottle] Pours a dark chestnut brown with a fantastic creamy thick beige head. Great aroma, sweet and vinous, completely unique, vinegar, nutty, apples, varnish... it really does kinda smell like wood stain. Really nice stuff, flavors of dark malts, fruity, yeasty, light ripe banana, dates, yea I can taste some rum. Fruit cake is a good descriptor for this. Complex and balanced. Smooth fluffy carbonation, medium body... wow really nice. TaktikMTL (2749), Montréal-Nord, Quebec, Canada Jul 29, 2008 Bouteille de 250 ml obtenue via Importations Privées Bièropholie. Poured a dark amber, with a very light nose, some belgian yeasts were noticeable.Flavor was fruity and yeasty with a nice sweet non cloying finish.
Could be more complex, but by no means bad. BoBoChamp (1334), Gent, Belgium Jul 21, 2008 25cl, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex X-Mas brew, clear, good head, the best of the Corsendonk-range BuckeyeSammy (454), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jul 20, 2008 palate a little too thin. Heavily carbonated, spiced with nutmeg and cinamon. Simple Christmas beer. chokmah33 (115), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jul 17, 2008 Rich syrupy dark malts, sappy spruce, and earthy yeast in the sniff. Nuts and metal. Some licorice and liquor undertones.
Flavor is sweet (burnt sugar), and yeasty. Fairly piney with nice spice.
Fruits (apricots, plums, raisins, and apple cider).
An amazingly smooth palate, as these imported belgians tend to have.
