heavy (814), Split, Croatia Dec 4, 2007 And here I come to the rating number 200! In front of me I have Christmas Ale from the brewery that surprised me very pleasantly with their dubbel and tripel. BB date Sep 14, 2007, so it’s also kind of aged :)
So, it was a 0.25 bottle which poured dark, almost black body with medium creamy brown head. Sweet dark fruits from malts in aroma, specially raspberries and cranberries. Flavor is quite nice fruity, but quite light bodied, although creamy on palate. Nice finish though, sweetish with berry fruits. Alcohol is not felt at all here and carbonation is, contrary to the other beers from this brewery I’ve tried, very low. Surely a good beer, although I’ve expected more, which it would probably be with some more body. Moz (613), Gothenburg, Sweden Dec 4, 2007 Bottle, 25cl. Reddish brown colour with a tan head. Surupy aroma with notes of ginger, caramel & fruits. Sweet, slightly spicy flavour. jefcon (997), Arlington, Virginia, USA Dec 2, 2007 Really good Christmas ale. Dark brown in color with lots of malts, spicy yeast, and woodsy, orange citrus aromas. Equally complex on the palate with a dominating maltiness and a long finish. Furseth (1328), Kungälv, Sweden Dec 2, 2007 Bottle: Red amber clear colour, with a nice cremay head. Aroma is fruity, yeasty, some caramel in the end. Flavor is almost the same. But has a nice caramelly, dark Chocolate mouth feeling, lots of maltynes in the end. Medium body, and a nice medium fruity/sweet/caramely finish. Nice Belgian Ale!
RSRIZZO (1345), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Dec 1, 2007 Aroma is spicy, roasted and yeasty. Color is a deep amber with a nice tight head and very good carbonation. Taste is sweet and fruity. Starting with medium body that goes down smooth. Finish comes in with a sweet taste of raisins with a mild roasted caramel flavor, this rolls into a cherry flavor that turns a bit tart in the end. In the after taste the cherry smoothes out and an easy bitterness slides though. This is not only a great Belgian brew but it may be the best Winter/Christmas brew I have had this year. chicagobears (336), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA Dec 1, 2007 750ml bottle. Ruby brown in color. Aroma of nutmeg and dark ripe fruits. Ripe plum and berry flavor. Anise and licorice. A rum like tingle in the middle of the tongue. Prickly carbonation. A decent hop presence for a Belgian ale. Slightly hot. But thats a good thing, not a bad thing. tjthresh (1746), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Dec 1, 2007 Bottle from Mike.
Dark cherry cola color, with a beige head.
Big malty aroma with caramel, Jolly Ranchers, pipe smoke, and fruit cake.
The flavor is very well blended. Lot of the same character that is found in the aroma. Just a smidge of bitterness.
Full bodied. High carbonation. Semi sweet finish. Easy to drink and smooth.
Thanks Mike. This is a nice beer. jehoey (766), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 1, 2007 Aroma is a little barnyardy with lots of fresh cut hay and is just that sweet smell of drinking through the country, with a little licorice mixed in. pours a dark brown through still transparent with a good head. The flavor is very nicely malty, with licorice, and is slightly tart. Quite nice. I can’t remember anything distinguishing about the mouthfeel or body, so it must not have been unpleasent or amazing. good.
