Arayaga2 (933), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 12, 2007 Dark reddish brown with substantial tan head. Aroma is somewhat faint but spicy and sweet with a hint of bubble gum, pineapple and cloves. Taste is rather tepid and a bit biscuity. $4.65/12oz b33r (363), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Apr 7, 2007 Dark brown in color with thick cream head that slowly disappeared. Aroma was strong, very malty. Flavor was excellent, rich malts and fruits with little alcohol flavor. Smooth and very drinkable. duece (103), Waterford, Wisconsin, USA Apr 6, 2007 Thick rich off-white lasting head. Pours a very dark black Malty aroma blends well with strong sugary malts and robust flavor. Very quick and smooth finish. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Mar 19, 2007 Bottle. Poured a dark brown with a creamy off-white head that leaves light lacing. The aroma has fruits, spices (clove & nutmeg), and a light hint of alcohol. The flavor found dark fruits, malts, and spices. Medium to full body. Enjoyable. mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA Mar 18, 2007 Pous a quite translucent deep mahogany/burgundy-red color. Produces a sturdy, thick beige colored head with excellent durability throughout the glass. No lacing noted. Pleasant, but somewhat muted aromas of brandy-soaked dark fruits, sherry, ripe black cherries, dark caramel malt and brown sugar. Some faint notes of yeast, ripe banana and spices linger in the background. Mouthfeel is well balanced with a nice full, thick chewiness along with a palate tingling spritzy carbonation. Initial taste is that of sweet crystal malts, dark brown sugar and melted caramel candies. Flavor then seems to transcend quickly to a complex blend of ripe brandied dark fruits, licorice, cinnamon, nutmeg and dark pumpernickel bread. A dash of hoppy or herbal bitterness appears late to tame any overt sweetness. Alcohol is more apparent as glass warms, but not coarse or obtrusive in any way. Well balanced and classy all around.
