esox (259), Oulu, Finland Feb 10, 2009 Draught @ De Kelk, Bruges. Huge beige head is cloudy and creamy. Liquid is clear ruby. The aroma is somewhat spicy (licorice, coriander, aniseed) and malty. Strong on arange peel, almost like orange truffles. Slightly hopped in the finish with aniseed and licorice. The flavoe is medium bodied, smooth, silky soft and low carbonated. Lightish and spiced-up kerstbier. kkearn (995), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 8, 2009 Draft, at Cooper’s (Scranton, PA) on 12/26/08. Pours reddish brown, capped with a small brown head. Aroma of raisins, toffee, spice and citrus. Flavor is highlighted by dark fruits, notably raisin and black cherry, with smoke, cocoa, and spice. Long fruit and spice finish. A winter classic!
Guerde (696), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Jan 29, 2009 (bottle, fairly old, says best by 9/09) Pours out a muddy brown with an off-white head that retains and leaves good lacing. Nice aroma of cinnamon raisin rolls, a spike of orange zest, with prominent caramel and light alcohol as well along with some pepper. As this beer warms, there is a smokiness that becomes present. Further warming along with a yeast pour produces an aroma of flat cola. Taste is lightly vinous, with some caramel, plums, orange zest, cinnamon, and nutmeg that finishes with a nice bread and light spice finish. The mouthfeel is very smooth with a medium body. This is a very good beer, and it has aged nicely. jmm635 (250), Havertown, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 25, 2009 Pours a very slick deep maroon color with an off-white head that disappears quickly. Aroma was very complex - dark malts, alcohol, spices, and cherries. Flavor was very similiar to the aromas, but a little less intense. Feels real silky in the mouth and has a clean finish. rds (224), USA Jan 22, 2009 Yes, a lovely deep brown body with a lacy, tall tan head, sweet malt notes, adn a nutty, caramel-laced spectrrum of flavor. A real winner! unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Jan 22, 2009 Dark silky mahongany with a tannish bubbly head. A full blown blast of dark malts, figgy pudding, damson plums, juicy sultanas, puff candy and mollasses. As it slides gently down my throat a wondrous concoction of sweet caramel malts, rich nutty fruit cake and mulled wine with orange clove fills the senses. Full of spice and belgium strong ale character. Gorgeous thick body. Definetley a desert beer for savouring over a log fire AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Jan 19, 2009 Pours ruddy brown with a decent tan head. Nose and flavor are spice and citrus with some coriander like influence. Creamy mouthfeel. juiceisloose (644), Windermere, Florida, USA Jan 18, 2009 On draft it pours reddish brown color with a medium sized tan head that shows good rentention. The aroma shows different types of dark fruit, raisins, fig, and caramel. It smells just like a christmas fruitcake. The flavor follows suit with the sweet dark fruit and caramel coming through along with raisins and figs. Some cinnamon and nutmeg spices appear in the background to add depth and flavor. Medium bodied almost full with a smooth mouthfeel with just a touch of alcohol warmth going down. Pretty nice christmas brew.
