saxo (3516), Højbjerg, Aarhus, Denmark Dec 16, 2005 (Bottled) Dark amber color with a small, beige head. Sweet and malty aroma with mandarine and some anise hints. Sweet, caramely-malty flavor with plums, licorice and raisins. Medium to full-bodied palate with medium carbonation. Hides the ABV well MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Dec 16, 2005 A Mes rate:
25cl bottle from Lowlander. Very Christmas like aroma. Spicy, sugary and some treacle toffee. Great dark hazelnut body with reasonable head retention and average lace. Flavour is what you would expect. Heavy carmael, chocolate, spice and generally pudding like. No doubt this would be much too sweet for some but I like it. Bubbly palate but not too much so. Sweet alcoholic finish. Good stuff. scraff (1921), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Dec 16, 2005 Dark crimson and brown, fizzy khaki colored head. Rich complex nose of musty caramel, plum, golden raisin, rum soaked fruitcake, and light anise. Tasted similar to the nose, just not quite as bold. Basically loads of dark fruit flavors and caramel, dark candi sugar, touches of liquorice, and a light hop bitterness providing nice balance. Medium bodied, lively carbonation, soft bittersweet finish. A good holiday sipper...
Tmoney99 (4661), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Dec 15, 2005 Bottle. Poured a hazy brown with a large creamy light brown head that was fully lasting with excellent lacing. Good complex spice aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture. Moderate sweet bitter flavor with a light bitter finish with a long duration. Very well done. oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA Dec 14, 2005 Pours a darkish red/brown. Aromas of spice, coriander, yeast, and alcohol. Flavor has an alcohol taste to it, mixed with a nice smokey dark fruit. Also has strong hints of spice and orange. ericmc83 (200), Arkansas, USA Dec 10, 2005 Sweet malt with the classic belgian yeast influence. Decent amount of spicyness that blended very well with the other characteristics. Nothing overpowered anything else...nicely done. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Dec 9, 2005 dark brown color - tan head. sweet malty lively tasting. slightly spicy - very good, easy to drink, reminds me alot of their dubbel. good beer here Thaichile (599), 10aFly, New Jersey, USA Dec 9, 2005 Bottle. Spices and raisins on the nose. Pours a dark amber with a light head. Smooth, thick, and as it slowly coats your taste buds. Coffee notes but not from Starbucks, more of a lighter roast. Great beer to sip by the fire.
