DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jul 2, 2005 Bottle shared by Blake. Hoppy anise flavor with a milk chocolatey background. Big cakey flavor - moist chocolate cake, licorice, nutmeg and tootsie roll sweetness. Roasty dry, spicy finish. A warming spicy brew. Reminds me of LB Holiday Spice with nicer chocolate notes. MIBRomeo (1962), Wisconsin, USA Jul 2, 2005 pours mahogony in color w/ a tall frothy head and decent lacing. I smell eggnog nutmeg cinamon alcohol and malts. Palate is smooth lightly creamy ok coating Taste is a spice (cinamon and nutmeg) a light carmel malt and a small dry hop finish. Overall a solid beer. Thanks to Blake for sharing. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Jul 1, 2005 Celebrating Christmas in July... Poured from a 750 (Lot No. 137250). It pours to a thick white head that is rocky and foamy, decent lacing. The body is a really dark mahogany color. The aroma is hugely spicy, malty, sour fruit, smoke, green raisins, blueberries. The flavor is oak smoked black licorice. The palate is warming. There is some spicy nutmeg or mace in the flavor. The palate is rich, dry, and full. SkyinBrian (429), Collinsville, Illinois, USA Jun 3, 2005 amberish brown color. roasty malty taste with some dark fruits, raisins, carmel, finish is dry and spicy. not sure why i am drinking this in june, but i need to empty my fridge before i graduate college. zathrus13 (1288), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA May 29, 2005 Pours medium brown, with a tan head. Aromas are caramel, sweet malt, raisins, and some chocolate. Flavors are fruit, caramel, chocolate, and spices. SuIIy (1406), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA May 1, 2005 Pours a semi-dark amber with a white head. Smells sweet with caramel hints, kinda spicy. Taste is very syrupy and thick, with some light spiciness, bready. Fairly simple, not impressed. RateandPillage (417), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Apr 24, 2005 Pours brown with good tan head. Aromas of caramel malt and plums or raisins and holiday spices. Flavors much of the same with a little bit of cocoa as well. A little bit thinner in the palate than I was hoping for with a Christmas Ale. krisbierjaeger (844), dolores, Colorado, USA Apr 2, 2005 the rich, smoked ruby color of thick maple syrup, but clear-- and on top it bears a heavy, slurpy head that laces in parchment colored weaves and wobbles. it smells like a mandarin orange cake with creamed nutmeg meringue-- like a load of fresh juniper berries and coriander in an old wooden chest. full bodied and sweet with the same oily citrus bitters, backed with malts that resemble mild coffee and pumpkin bread. the carbonation wore itself out quickly, so as it warmed it flowed as easily as water over smooth stones, while the alcoholic component crept inconspicuously among the dark amber shadows. if grand marinier made a beer, it might be like this.
