Bottle, courtesy of one of my siblings for Christmas. Poured a reddish brown color with a big off white head, that left a lot of lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, bread, caramel, fruit, brown sugar and orange. Flavor was a nice blend. Caramel, brown sugar, orange, toasted bread and citrus. Alcohol had a nice presence. Really smooth taste, with a soft palate. I liked this oone alot.

From Bottle, red wine glas. Large rocky and creamy nice head, mostly lasting. nice amber-brown body. Fruity, complex, smells belgian. Caramel, grain, flowers and a lot of orange and Seville orange. with a effervescent tablet feel about it. Leaves impressions colored with butterscotch, honey and a very faint sense of syrup and almond. Moderate sweet with a moderate bitter and sweet finish. Dry and oily and smooth but not really that well balanced, more fun then good. Merry xmas and cheers!

Corked bottle shared on Christmas. Pours a nice brown with an active tan head. Aroma of malt, spices, dark fruits. Flavor is dark fruits, spices, malt, alcohol, yeasts, esthers, cloves. Decent brew, but a little hot and thin compared to other comparable brews.

Aged in my basement for 1.5 years, and opened today on Christmas. The aroma is malty, sweet, dark fruits, alcohol. The appearance is a dark red/brown, tan head. The flavor is sweet, fruity, and spicy. The finish was malty sweet, spicy and warming alcohol. Decent seasonal ale. It may be that aging this bad boy increased the discernable alcohol in it.

Clear dark brown beer with a lasting large tan head, aroma is sweet and candy like with a malty finish. Taste is thick with sweet alcoholic fruits.

Enjoying this one on Christmas Eve, 2008. Just returned from Church with my family and sister Jills gang, dinner (Maple Glazed Chicken plus Crabcakes) is almost ready, and I thought it apropos to crack this one first! Pours a dark reddish, amber with a thick tan head and excellent lacing. Aroma of dark fruits (cherries, plums), hops, spices, and caramel malt. Tastes of fruit and hops, with good carbonation and a slick finish. This is an outstanding beer which reminds me a bit of Ommegang Three Philosophers. Merry Christmas!

4 Very dark brown, almost black. Very thin head that quickly vanished. Oily surface. Strong aroma right out of the bottle. Sweet caramel malt, toffee, coffee, spice, cookies. Very sweet and spicy. Cookieish, caramel. Great roasted malt and alcohol finish. It does not seem as strong as it is. Fantastic balance. Really an excellent brew. The alcohol, hops and roasted flavor balance out this strong sweetness very well. Traces of fruit, maybe oranges, and spice, maybe nutmeg.
