On the palate this silky smooth ale is predominantly malty, with smoky, spicy and citrusy notes, and a long, lingering finish that is lightly tart and malty.

Editor’s note: Sold as both Corsendonk Christmas Ale and as King’s Blue in Norway.

Aroma after pour: roasty, nuts, smoke, raisin, Appearance: cloudy, brown, black, Head: frothy, rocky head, Taste: medium sweetness, lightly bitter, Palate: medium body, creamy, lively co2, with a pleasant long finish. Bought this as a "closeout" beer at a small local beer store for $7. What a great bargain. This is a great after dinner drink, just skip dessert and grab one of these! Lots of good character in this brew, the notes are complex despite the aroma bring very subtle. Is definitely buy this again.

Christmas version of Corsendonck Pater, brewed by Du Bocq. Creamy, stable head, colour a dark reddish brown. Delicately sweet aroma, candied fruit, chocolate, candi syrup, caramel malts; taste likewise, candied dates in the onset, caramel malts, soft and rounded, bit of roasted bitterness in the end and in that sense again a Scotch-type beer ’in disguise’, like most stereotypical dark Belgian Christmas ales. In other words: cliché, but good.

Corsendonk Christmas Ale has a thin, beige head, a brown, bubbly, opaque appearance, and pretty much no lacing left behind. The aroma is of rich, sweet, spicy malt and fruit. Taste is of dark, sweet bread, rich, moist, fruit cake, dark fruit, sugars, and a fairly pronounced, balancing bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and prickly, and Corsendonk Christmas Ale finishes semi-wet and dessert like. Very little of an alcohol pick-up, here. RJT

Transfer from BA reviewed 1-20-12 - Poured from bottle into a Leffe goblet glass Appearance - Pours a lighter brown which looks deep red upon holding up to light. The big (~ 2 finger) tan "dirty" looking head that forms upon pouring is quite persistent and lasts for about 1 min or more. The large carbonation bubbles pop slowly over time leaving a fair level of lacing. Smell - A sweet breadiness is the first to be scented. It mixes with a yeasty dried fruit smell which eventually comes to include a bit of spiciness near the end. Right at the finish of the aroma is some alcohol, nothing too overpowering and actually quite soothing. Taste - The taste profile follows the smell quite well. Some sweet maltiness is meet first with dried fruits mixed into the breadiness. The yeast, which is present along with the maltines,s fades toward the back end of the taste, where the alcohol and spiciness of nutmeg and cinnamon work their way in. Mouthfeel - A good creaminess with a nice level of carbonation which tickles the tongue. This tickling is soon subdued with the lightest burn of alcohol. Very nice transitions. Overall - A nice holiday brew to sit and sip in front of an open fireplace while relaxing and collecting your thoughts.

Dark ruby, brown almost, with huge lacing, lasting light brown foam head. Aroma is muffled by foam head, but clearly malty caramel with some light smokey notes. Taste some wheatm little spciy, but mainly malty caramel again. (Velp 201405)

Bottle. Pours a reddish brown color with a very thick pillowy tan head on it. Nose is light, but present; I get some sweetness from what seems like caramel and raisin, and some slight earthy elements. Taste is pretty sweet, with just a hint of some sourness to the end of it. OK.
