I had no idea this was 8.5 while drinking it, well done. Strongly malty with caramel and spice. Great choice for a winter - the belgian characteristics worked very well.

750 ml bottle with a dark brown pour into a chalice glass with a tan head that remained throughout. Bread and spice aroma. Medium body with some spice and sweet malt. The alcohol level is very noticeable. Filling finish. Not bad for $4.99.

This beer pours a mostly clear brown color with lots of carbonation bubbles streaming to the top. There is a thick off white head that retained throughout the beer and left some good lacing around the glass. The aroma is malty and bready. I pick up some slight caramel and grassy notes. The taste is dark fruits up front with some earthy hops and bitterness and some spices. In the aftertaste I pick up some slight hints of chocolate and maybe even licorice. The mouthfeel is on the medium side. The drinkability is low with this one, it is more of a sipper and the alcohol is somewhat noticed.

2015/01/16 - Pours a hazy brown colour with a foamy, khaki head that slowly reduces. Moderate lacing. Aroma is bread, yeast, fruitcake, spices, caramel, raisins and figs. Taste follows nose; doughy/spiced fruitcake notes, figs, raisins and caramel. Alcohol is well hidden. Mouthfeel is medium, with sharp carbonation and a sweet and mildly bitter finish. Not too sweet: Just right. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle to glass - strange nose which makes me think this is old but the best buy date is for 5 months from now. Caramel, grass, spicy and saison like yeast. No smoke. Sweet.

I cannot put a name on what aroma it is, but it definitely taste what it smell. I think I tried an other beer with the same taste/aroma, but again I cannot remember which one.

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2015 Been drinking this beer for years. It was one of the gateway or early beers, along with the other Corsendonk brews. I think my favorite part of the Christmas Ale is that a lot of the bigger beer stores put this beer on sale after the pagan holidays. So, with that in mind I picked up a 6 pack of 250mL bottles and a glass. Come home, pop in the freezer for 20 minutes, and pour in the globe goblet glass. I love the glass because its demarcated with both a 25cL fill line and a 33cL line. With that mind I wasn’t able to pour the last 5th of the bottle because of the humongous head, which eventually sort of faded. The lacing almost completely covers the side of the glass. Aroma is lightly fruity but not esters, maybe light prune off the malts, grapey is the best descriptor. Plum crust. Body is light, carbonation is soft, makes the beer very quaffable. Flavor has a light raisin bread feel. Finishes light and soft. Yup, I still like this beer.

Bottle, 25cL. Home. A clear brown beer with a big off-white head ; good retention. Citrusy aroma, limonade, herbs, alcohol.Light to medium sweet, light bitter, sour note, a bit dry. Average body, light silky texture, sticky, ephemeral sweet finish. Overall, where is Christmas spirit ? A bit lost.

~Older bottle. Somewhat stale aroma, papery. Staleness goes away with time. Bready malt with caramel, prune, dark cherry and plenty of spicy notes ~Pours amberish brown color with lasting fluffy brownish head. ~Sweet yet refreshing fruity prune/raisin flavor with bread and light spiciness. Very well balanced. ~Medium light bodied with medium high CO2, soft bubbles, smooth and creamy, Bready sweet finish and a spice that lingers. ~My first impression wasn’t great, but as it aired out this turned out to be pretty excellent. I think I would like it even better with out the lingering spicy bitterness. Complex enough to be interesting and very easy to drink.
