UPDATED: SEP 20, 2008 Wonderful appearance, cloudy dark-brown with thick, long-lasting head. Complex aroma, roasted malts, fruity and a bit yeasty. When aged the aroma strongly resembles a Flemish Sour Ale, very fruity, really nice. Complex flavour: chocolate, roasted malts, fruity, some sourness, raisins, it’s all in there. Smooth finish. From tap it’s a bit disappointing, but bottled (especially when aged) this is pretty good.

First Belgian Strong I was introduced too. It was a happy memory. Very palatable, very drinkable, very flavorful and enjoyable.

Once again a pretty solid beer from Corsendonk. Deep brown amber colour, malty yeasty nose, slight sweet start, malty caramel flavour, fairly dry finish, and not overly complex. Cool bottle design aswell.

This girl that I know had never tasted a belgian beer. And couldn’t understand why I find belgians (beers, that is) so outstanding. After trying to describe the difference between lambics, wits, dubbels and triples, I un-corked a Corsendonk. No better way to explain than through show and tell. She read the description on the bottle and blurted ’but I HATE raisons!’ I calmed her fears by assuring her that this beer would not taste like raisons. It would be dark, rich, with mild hints of chocolate and slightly sweet but not obnoxious. After finishing the bottle, she agreed that belgian beer is rather remarkable. Say no more, nudge nudge, wink wink.

This beer poured a dark brownish amber color and formed a light tan head that left little lace(might have had chilled too cold). Some degree of carbonation. The aroma was of grapes/raisin. The flavor was of grapes/raisin, spice and light chocolate. The finish was a bit tart with some elements of the grape and spice. A good ale which hides the alcohol fairly well.

Bottle with cap. Cloudy brown appearance with a nice head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is wonderful, sort of a pine, fruity, and yeasty mix. The flavor is typically brown in that it is subtle and smooth but has some of the Belgian brilliance. Hints of lemon, sugars, citrus, raisins, and apples.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2005 Agressive carbonation nearly smothering the light molasses in brandy…Nutty apricot sweetness and roasted malt bitterness mingle with the lemon and wood pudding…Satisfying for a quaffer, disappointing for a rich dubbel...

UPDATED: APR 17, 2003 Lots of fruit in the aroma (apples, pears, plums?) Lots of flavour in this one. Had a large almost fizzy white head. Also had notes of chocolate in the aftertaste.

A little bitter for me, but the shapness definitely died down a bit as it warmed. Nice complex flavor, a little heavy on the alcohol taste.

Thanks to aracauna for this one (although it turns out you can find it in Ohio after all...). Thick, slowly dissipating head that lasted pretty much the whole glass. Rather dark amber color. Very complex aroma with hints of caramel and fruit (was that really raisin?). This one definitely improved as it approached room temperature. I am looking forward to trying the Pale Ale.
