Commercial Description:
Has a very distinctive bouquet: yeasty, fruity and slightly smoky. In palate, it has notes of port, raisins and black chocolate. Editor's note: Apparently production has moved from Van Steenberge to du Bocq as of Sept 2007.

The bottle looks very simple, a bit too simple, I think. The beer in the glass very dark, almost black, nice head. Starts malty and strong, quite fruity with notes of plum and raisins. Very soft finish, well balanced, warming aftertaste. Not bad!

Very nicely done.Pours a cola brown with a big head. Aroma is wonderful full of fruit bread and malt. Flavor has a touch of root beer. Finish is exceptionally smooth. Very easy to put a few of these away.

Bomber into pint. Dark brown with some clear brown around the edges, medium carbonation and huge dark tan head. Taste is a bit like beef stew in a delicious way, nice body. Plus at $9 a bomber pretty happy with it.

750ml shared with Pipper. Clear brown body with nice lacing light khaki brown head. Aroma is wheaty, yeasty, and fruity with cereal notes. Flavor is the same pretty much with a nice hop profile... nice fall beer. Medium body with fine light carbonation. Overall: good, but not supremely unique.

330ml bottle. Pours dark brown. Off-white head. Aroma has cola malt and brown sugar. Flavor is from roasted malt, is sweet, has brown sugar and some chocolate. Bubbly palate and mild bitternes.

Pours a dark brown color with a loosing cream head. Aroma of smokey roasted malts. Flavors of dry fruits like raisins and plums. Roasted malts and some coffee. Sweet and spicy, good carbonations, with a dry ending. Full of tastes, very pleasant.

750 ml. bottle. pours a thick rapidly deflating beige head, over a clear, dark reddish brown (SRM 33) body.....nose is sweet malts, bit of coffee, cocoa, barnyard.....taste early is sweet malts, balanced by dried fruits (raisin, cherry) followed by roasted malt and hop bitterness....mouth feel is rather light, carbonation medium. This is a pleasant Dubbel, but does not have the layers of nose and taste that the best have.

Aroma: Malty, fruit presence (aroma was overall too light). Appearance: Dark brown with big head that has medium retention. Flavor: Malts, caramel, some dried fruit presence, and a bit of bitterness. Palate: medium body, lively, finish was faded faster than i would have liked. Overall: good beer but not quite enough flavor or special characteristics that make it stand out to me.
