patrickfannon (271), Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 5, 2009 Bottle. Pour dark brown, settles into a gorgeous amber. Thick frothy tan head which reduces slowly. Aroma of fruits, malts, and hints of chocolate. Body is outstandingly moderate and the finish is extremely smooth. Highly recommended ale. drowland (1337), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Sep 5, 2009 On tap in an abbey glass. Dark brown with a white head. Aroma is all sweet malts and caramel. Flavor is big sweet malt, nuts, and caramel up front which transitions into dark fruits and finishes roasty. Bigmmartin (366), Dayton, Ohio, USA Sep 3, 2009 Bottle shared by my neighbor. I’m surprised I’ve never tried this one before. Nice sweet malty, fruity aroma. Brown in color with a fluffy white head. Flavor is sweet with dark fruits, malts, and some yeast. Heavy carbonation. A pretty decent dubbel. deanso (4), the Hague, Netherlands does not count Sep 3, 2009 33cl bottle. reddy brown colour. A nice beer but doesn’t stand out. Still very nice AndyReynolds (280), Wilder, Kentucky, USA Sep 1, 2009 Bottle shared with Bigmmartin, thanks holmes. Pours a deep brown with a frothy tan head. Aroma is stong with sweet malts and dark fruits. Notes of chocolate, raisens, port wine, fruity yeast, and caramel. On the palate, it is thick and smooth. The flavor pulls out the dark fruits, giving it a sweet, dry finish. Very good. ChrisThomson (374), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 24, 2009 750mL Bottle. Lovely beer! Pours a nice deep brown colour, thick tan head. Beutifully balanced beer, with great chocolate, dried fruits. Finish with some bitterness, but very smooth. bw1982 (69), , Arizona, USA Aug 20, 2009 Bottle. Pours a fantastic deep golden brown, with a nice thick tan head. Aromas are very muted, but there is some port wine and chocolate. The flavors are good, there are some dried fruits and good bitterness. Overall, while the mouthfeel is nice and well carbonated, the flavor seems thin. The good Belgian yes profile is there along with good flavors, but it isn’t as concentrated and full as expected. basewars (144), Albany, New York, USA Aug 16, 2009 Nice deep brown color with a fluffy head and great retention. Full of port wine aromas along with chocolate and some cherry and raisins. There’s nothing like Belgian yeast. For a darker beer, it sits light on the palate and the carbonation makes the flavors dance. Very nice traditional abbey ale.
