Commercial Description:
Has a very distinctive bouquet: yeasty, fruity and slightly smoky. In palate, it has notes of port, raisins and black chocolate. Editor's note: Apparently production has moved from Van Steenberge to du Bocq as of Sept 2007.

750 ml. bottle. pours a thick rapidly deflating beige head, over a clear, dark reddish brown (SRM 33) body.....nose is sweet malts, bit of coffee, cocoa, barnyard.....taste early is sweet malts, balanced by dried fruits (raisin, cherry) followed by roasted malt and hop bitterness....mouth feel is rather light, carbonation medium. This is a pleasant Dubbel, but does not have the layers of nose and taste that the best have.

Aroma: Malty, fruit presence (aroma was overall too light). Appearance: Dark brown with big head that has medium retention. Flavor: Malts, caramel, some dried fruit presence, and a bit of bitterness. Palate: medium body, lively, finish was faded faster than i would have liked. Overall: good beer but not quite enough flavor or special characteristics that make it stand out to me.

Bottle. Pour dark brown, settles into a gorgeous amber. Thick frothy tan head which reduces slowly. Aroma of fruits, malts, and hints of chocolate. Body is outstandingly moderate and the finish is extremely smooth. Highly recommended ale.

On tap in an abbey glass. Dark brown with a white head. Aroma is all sweet malts and caramel. Flavor is big sweet malt, nuts, and caramel up front which transitions into dark fruits and finishes roasty.

Bottle shared by my neighbor. I’m surprised I’ve never tried this one before. Nice sweet malty, fruity aroma. Brown in color with a fluffy white head. Flavor is sweet with dark fruits, malts, and some yeast. Heavy carbonation. A pretty decent dubbel.

Bottle shared with Bigmmartin, thanks holmes. Pours a deep brown with a frothy tan head. Aroma is stong with sweet malts and dark fruits. Notes of chocolate, raisens, port wine, fruity yeast, and caramel. On the palate, it is thick and smooth. The flavor pulls out the dark fruits, giving it a sweet, dry finish. Very good.

750mL Bottle. Lovely beer! Pours a nice deep brown colour, thick tan head. Beutifully balanced beer, with great chocolate, dried fruits. Finish with some bitterness, but very smooth.
