The color is gorgeous, and the lacey white head lingered in the glass until the last gulp. Incredibly refreshing and washed away smooth. My only criticism is that the flavor was a little bit light, which was very surprising considering the high alcohol content. In truth, as the beer warmed up this flavor improved, but so much as to make me really take notice. I bet this is great off the tap. Cheers. StompBrockmore (300), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 21, 2007 75cl bottle - pours dark brown/copper with a big, fluffy off-white head. Aroma is extremely fruity, lots of apple and yeast and brown sugar. Smelled to me like a dark cider. Flavour was similarly cider-like, which doesn’t seem to match up with a lot of the other reviews here, so I wonder about the condition of the bottle I had. There was a strong yeasty/biscuity character underneath this, but the sour sweetness of the cider sort of put me off this one. Very juicy. Weird. dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA

Nose os nice and malty, good lacing. Hint of honey. Taste is malty with touch of brown sugar, crisp hopness, but very subtle at the beginning and diminishing to a nice complex bread/biscuit aftertaste. Touch of tart in there. This is highly drinkable. Seems to be a good breakfast beer. Cybercat (784), Georgia, USA

Aroma is nice and malty, not too strong. Flavor is strong and mouth-filling, malty, smoky, a little peaty with just a touch of sweetness, like molasses. Very smooth but with a little bit of a bite. redlight (1457), Winter Park, Florida, USA

Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Smooth malts, caramel, feint roasty flavors, with some anise, i’m really enjoying the anise aromas and flavors. Very good. cgarvieuk (4171), Edinburgh, Scotland

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 6, 2007 330ml bottle served chilled in a tulip glass at Le Mirage, Tromsø. Clear, mahogany body topped by a creamy, off-white head with good retention and glass-lacing - very nice to look at! Mild cocoa to the nose with notes of roastiness. Taste of dark fruits and, when it warms, there is also moderate sweetness of caramel-covered malts added some spicy (cinnamon) notes in the aftertaste. Smooth palate (02.11.2007).
