Commercial Description:
Has a very distinctive bouquet: yeasty, fruity and slightly smoky. In palate, it has notes of port, raisins and black chocolate. Editor's note: Apparently production has moved from Van Steenberge to du Bocq as of Sept 2007.

0.75 l bottle. Mahagony color with creamy head. Sweetish aroma with notes of raisins, chocolade, licorice and alcohol. Dryer taste with cork, wood, licorice, clove and some vinous notes. Too much cork in the flavor.

Nice cola color and huge head making it difficult to pour. Rich malt flavors in a light body. The esters one hopes to find in a Belgian are present, withut overpowering the malt.

Tasted right after Westmalle Dubbel for comparison. The Corsendonk came up a little shy but still established itself as quality. Poured a dark brown with a reddish hue. This is the first place it takes a step down from Westmalle. The latter is much denser and murkier, denser consistency. The head is thick creamy beige. The aroma is sweet, shows some alcohol, a little dry, vinous, dark fruits, Belgian aroma. The flavor is upfront Belgian musty, sweet, dark fruits, dry. Not a ton of complexity and stuff.

Poured dark brown/black. head was rather large and creamy. smell was sweet, fruit and sugar. flavor is what the bottle described, raisins dominant with some chocolate at the end and sone fig. palate is soft and kinda thin for what i expected. not what im used to for the style ( body wise and low in complexity) but still plenty of flavor and easy drinking.

Pours a dark, dark brown with garnet highlights; head is mderately full, rocky but creamy, and beige being mostly lasting and leaving some nice lacing. Nose is interesting to say the least; a little port-ish and a grape note that is unique, Belgian chocolate, yeast, and hints at fig, molasses, and smoke. Nose is a bit faint and hard to describe but certainly intriguing. Flavor is a bit uninteresting as compared to the nose; raisin, darker chocolate, yeast, and some fig with mild spices in there too. Palate is soft to lively, nearly medium, and silky but a little watery. Finishes mostly sweet with a bit of dryness, chocolate and raisin notes lingering. A fairly well done dubbel but really lacked the complexities of greater examples and the flavor was nothing compared to the nose. Certainly not a typical example of the style but nice in its own regards.

Heel erg smakelijke Pater. Geurt heerlijk als wijn en drinkt perfect. Is ook niet erg bitter op het eind.

Bottle. Dark brown pour, with a nice average head. Aroma is malt, caramels, little roastiness. The flavor was amazing. The beverage was smooth, with a nice malt, caramel, and some chocolate taste to it. It finishes surprisingly easy.
