Commercial Description:
Has a very distinctive bouquet: yeasty, fruity and slightly smoky. In palate, it has notes of port, raisins and black chocolate. Editor's note: Apparently production has moved from Van Steenberge to du Bocq as of Sept 2007.

Pours a dark hazy brown with a creamy beige head. Great lacing. Aroma of fruit, yeast, malts, and chocolate. Taste is complex with a intricate blend of spices, malts, hops, fruit, and chocolate.

750 split two ways. Brown in color, hazy, with some yeast floaties. Aroma is spicy, with some acrid malts, chocolate. Taste is somewhat tart and sour, with acrid malts, yeast, spices, and light notes of fruit. Thin in body. Perhaps this bottle was past it’s prime or exposed to heat, as this was a dissapointment.

Excellent brew. Dark brown pour with small off white head. Ruby highlights when held to the light. Nutty malt aroma and taste of spices (cloves) and dark malt.

Flaske. Flot flot mørkebrun farve. Dejligt skum og en fantastisk afbalanceret smag er med til at gøre denne øl til en nydelse (Afprøver mine reklame evner).

Bottle. More of a deep ruby red in color than brown with a fine offwhite head. A lot of yeast particles floating around. Aroma is of dark fruits such as rasins and plums balanced with some spices and oranges. Most unique in the taste is the high spice quality - a blend of cloves and ginger. Some dark fruit elemets again and malt. It really brings a good mix of things to the table without overdoing any one so it gets points for sophistication.

Draft in the Utopolis, Turnhout. Dark-red beer with a small creamy off white head. Medium carbonation. Spicy aroma. The quickly disappearing flavors are a bit disappointing. Some sourness coming from the roasted malts. Some spicy notes in the background but all quickly disappearing. Luckely the Simpsons movey was better than this beer I had in their café.

Big bottle in a tin can. Complex aroma. Orange, a bit like Bush Noel actually! A good strong taste with a silky texture.

First of all, I’m a huge fan of abbey ales. With that being said, this stuff is incredible. The appearance, well....peep the picture, it’s brilliant. The head lasts for ages. The aroma reveals that amazing Belgian yeast, orange citrus, plum and a bit of roasty, almost smoky malts. The flavor, differing mildly from the scent, gives way to a host of flavours not hinted at in the aroma. These include figs, clove, a variety of dark fruits, chocolate, candied sugar and also the yeaste. The palate is tingly, velvety smooth and medium-bodied, with lively carbonation and a smooth, long, not-so-dry finish. I will give this the numbers it deserves. Don’t be jaded in similarities in Belgian brews. also, this is not a brown ale, so get your shit right when rating. Thankyou.
