Commercial Description:
Has a very distinctive bouquet: yeasty, fruity and slightly smoky. In palate, it has notes of port, raisins and black chocolate. Editor's note: Apparently production has moved from Van Steenberge to du Bocq as of Sept 2007.

330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Named "Corsendonk Pater - Dubbel". ABV is 7.5%. Bottle conditioned. Deep brown colour, large beige head. Pleasant aroma of dark fruits, caramel, candy sugar, spices and oak, a hint of smoke. Pleasant flavour of oak and malts, some candy sugar and caramel but not too sweet, moderate hops. Nice.

Bottle at Bocktown-Pour was a deep brown with a off white ring for a head with no lacing. The aroma was of fruit, a little yeast and malt. The taste was a bitey carbonated mix of dark fruits, alcohol and spice. A little too carbonated for my tastes and not yeasty enough. Good nonetheless.

Bottle. Light brown color, big light brown head. Similar taste to the pale version but more complex and a bit dryer. Excellent aroma and rich taste. Very nice.

Dark mahogany with a huge, nice and lasting head. The first time I tasted this one, I didn’t like it, it was to sharp in it’s acidity. But then I got a 75 cl. bottle as a present, and after some months, I opened it. The aroma has notes of yeast, fruit, and a hint of grapefruit. The first one had way too much black currant in the flavour, but in this one it’s gone, and it only is present as a hint among other notes of fruit.

THOUGHTS: Had this one on new year’s eve. Just a little too much carbonation. I couldn’t stop burping. Looked incredible though. I’ve been wanting to try this for a while and got it as an unexpected Christmas gift. I was greatly pleased with this one. It just got better as it warmed, more dark fruit and a little less yeasty in flavor. Nice beer. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark red-brown with tons of carbonation and an average, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was light nutty and caramel malt and moderate yeast, along with dark fruit and cherry. The initial flavor was light to moderate sweetness and light bitterness, while the finish was lightly bitter and sour with an average duration. The body was medium and dry and oily with tons of carbonation and a lightly astringent finish.

A very nice Dubbel. Classic features are prevalent in the handcrafted beer. The taste is tremendous but a strong aftertaste held be back from giving it a higher rating."

Clear dark amber with a small off-white head. Burned toffee aroma, with some light roasted chestnut and earthy hops. Very fizzy carbonation, malt driven body. Flavours of toffee, yeast, chocolate toasted malt and dried fruit. Slightly warming sweet/spicy finish. Medium bitterness. Very nice.
