rmuller (7), New Jersey, USA does not count Jul 13, 2006 Appearance: Pours to a dark brown, with a good 1 1/2 fingers of head on it, head shortly settles down to about 1/2 a finger, but still leaves a nice lacing :: aroma: mild smoky nutty smell :: Flavor: creamy and smooth, mild but pleasant aftertaste :: Palate: creamy and perfect balance of carbonation. Overall: Great beer! One of my favorites, and readily available in 750mls at numerous stores after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Jul 13, 2006 750. What more could you want? I’m not saying the world’s perfect beer has been invented, but utter satisfaction is more than enough. Pours super-ebony: brown to the point of black and nearly opaque, but glints of garnet and tan on the edges. Thick, tight off-white head an inch high. And here’s a rarity, a beer that actually delivers what the brewer promises. Yeast/fruit/smoke on the nose, port/raisins/chocolate on the palate. Little peck of tartness on the finish. An eminently accessible, complex, delicious, and comforting belgian. nctomatoman (9), Raleigh, NC, North Carolina, USA does not count Jul 10, 2006 A complete experience - absolutely delicious, complex, pretty much all we look for in this style. themadmumis (344), Westminster, Maryland, USA Jul 10, 2006 Well, quite an experience here. Opened the bottle and it kept over-flowing with head. Drank half of it and the head kept coming. A true Belgian brew with a complex taste and, yes, a lot of head. donvitozou (141), memphis, Tennessee, USA Jun 29, 2006 poured from 750 bottle. nice thick lasting head and dark brown. nice all around belgian smells. tasted candi sweet with spices and finished clean with hint of raisins as the bottle said. good hoppy (cascades) flavor as well. thornecb (1734), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Jun 29, 2006 Best enjoyed before 29/10/03. Pours dark brown and fizzy like a cola into a trappist glass. Active foam quickly recedes to nothing. Dried fruit - date, fig quad-like aromas. Fizzy and malty with an abrupt raisin finish. jrob21 (1249), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 17, 2006 On tap at the brickstore. Clear brown color. Very yeasty, tastes of wheat and bread. Floral aroma. Slightly sweet. zebracakes (1208), Washington DC, USA Jun 17, 2006 On tap @ the Sharp Edge, PGH, PA. Dark mahogany with off white head. Aroma is musty and sour. Flavor is very smooth spices, caramel, molasses, with earthy notes. I’ve had this beer on tap several times at S.E. and this is definitely the best batch by far.
