Corsendonk Pater (Abbey Brown Ale)

Cloudy brown, with exquisite small-bubbled lacing; beautiful in the glass. Cherries and yeasty nose. Taste profile - showing bits of coriander and a medium-mouthed maltiness - is very reminiscent of Traquair’s Jacobite, with a bit more heft and hops and raisiny around the edges. An excellent brew.

750mL bottle. Deep ruby red color with a large rocky light brown head. Bready malt aromatics with dark alefruit and some spicy, fruity esters. Peppery esters with some caramel and doughy malt. Alefruit and currants in the finish with a residual malt sweetness. Mouthfeel is a medium though somewhat thin for the style.

12 oz bottle-Pours a dark brown color w/a huge off white foamy head. Not much of an aroma-somewhat roasted/smoked. Sweet malty flavor, some citrus, also somewhat metallic. Left me wanting more. Too thin-not much of a finish-except metallic. Maybe I got a bad one-but I’d call it a disappointment.

750ml bottle - A wonderfully aromatic dubbel rich on the pallette but slightly lacking in body. Anyone wanting to try a Belgian for the first time should start with Corsendonk.

Cloudy amber with a tan head. A strong citrusy aroma - grapefruit/raisin/malt. Smart blend of the raisin, citrus and malt together with the yeasty carbonation - comes together well. However, I found the mouthfeel a little thin for what I was expecting and the finish uneventful. Good and smooth drinking, just not a breathtaker.

"The Corsendonk Brown Ale pours a very nice light brown color, with an everlasting light tan head. The aroma is a mixture of port and raisins, with a very, very light scent of spices. The taste is very nice and smooth. This beer has a wonderful mouth feel and is very easy to drink. The flavors are of dark fruits--especially grapes. This is probably the best dubbel I’ve had to date."

Appearance: Pours to a dark brown, with a good 1 1/2 fingers of head on it, head shortly settles down to about 1/2 a finger, but still leaves a nice lacing :: aroma: mild smoky nutty smell :: Flavor: creamy and smooth, mild but pleasant aftertaste :: Palate: creamy and perfect balance of carbonation. Overall: Great beer! One of my favorites, and readily available in 750mls at numerous stores

750. What more could you want? I’m not saying the world’s perfect beer has been invented, but utter satisfaction is more than enough. Pours super-ebony: brown to the point of black and nearly opaque, but glints of garnet and tan on the edges. Thick, tight off-white head an inch high. And here’s a rarity, a beer that actually delivers what the brewer promises. Yeast/fruit/smoke on the nose, port/raisins/chocolate on the palate. Little peck of tartness on the finish. An eminently accessible, complex, delicious, and comforting belgian.
