blankboy (3156), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 9, 2006 Bottle courtesy of HogTownHarry. At least a year old. Pours a murky amber-brown with a large lasting fluffy off-white head. Nice lacing. Aroma of dark malt, yeast and dark fruit. Flavour’s malty and somewhat fruity with some yeast and a mild sourness. Medium bodied. Not as good as I hoped but still an enjoyable Dubbel. weeare138 (933), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 7, 2006 On draft at The Flying Pig...
Appears a dark, murky brown with a thick, off white head that slowly fades out into a small film and gentle collar. Streaks of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is bready, mildly sour, raisins, prunes, with an odd cork-ish stale aroma in there that catches me off guard.
Taste is of the same aromas. Mildly doughy with an odd prune fruit flavor.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with wood tannins and mild tartness lingering in the back. ryan (1774), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Apr 2, 2006 Brown body with creamy, beige head. Mostly lasting, nice lacing. The aroma is banana, golden raisins and cloves. The flavor is prunes, cloves and bread. Mouthfeel is soft and creamy. dkoonce (879), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Apr 1, 2006 750 ml bottle. Hazy brown with a thick fizzing head that quickly thins. The arom a is heavy with malt and raisins. The body seems heavy and not a sour as I’d expected. The flavor is definately raisins and a bit of wood, oak I think. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 30, 2006 Bottle. Pours a hazy amber/brown color with a large off-white head. Aroma of dark fruits, sweet malts, belgian spices. Flavor is cherries, sweet malts, slight belgian style spices, and smooth. Goody body, good brew. beerBB (132), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 28, 2006 Updated: May 2, 2007Perfect amount of maltiness, very complex. Great mouthfeel. Always try to have one at the Drafting Room whenever I’m by there. don’t like quite as much as the Abbey Pale. SB (317), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 22, 2006 On-Tap @ Kelly’s in Pgh, PA
Poured dark brown with ruby highlights around edges. Very fluffly and bubbly 2-inch thick (or more) off-white head. Aroma malty and fruity, not strong. Flavor fruity, bready, spicy and slightly sour in the end. As it warmed I picked up more fruity notes like plum notes. Very complex. Carbonation good. Medium to full bodied. Chewy mouthfeel. I did enjoy and I was surprised how darn good this was! bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Mar 21, 2006 "Oh my i didn’t expect this to be this good. Poured a dar brown with red edges.
