Commercial Description:
Has a very distinctive bouquet: yeasty, fruity and slightly smoky. In palate, it has notes of port, raisins and black chocolate. Editor's note: Apparently production has moved from Van Steenberge to du Bocq as of Sept 2007.

GReat aroma. Smells like raisins and peaches with coffee and chocolate. Thick, ivory head. The color changes depending on the clarity. Smoky palte, yeasty taste with bitter finish. I really enjoy this one.

Draft - Deep brown, creamy light tan head. Soft nose of iced tea, fruit cake, raisin, and touches of cherry. Tea-like with more dark dusty fruit flavors (fig and raisin), with a light hop bitternes rounding this out. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dark fruity finish. For me, just uninteresting...

Thick foamy head, plenty of carbonation, nice deep brown chesnut colour, bit yeasty and malty not too bad but not best of it’s style.

Not bad. Big head. Dark brown. Complex belgian nose. Sour notes mingling with the sweet maltiness. Not much in the way of hops. Spritzy.

Nice yeast and hop aroma. Medium high carbonation which produce a huge off white head. Carmel flavor and raisin flavors over power that hops.

Pours deep mahogany with a huge beige head that leaves splotchy lacing. Aroma is dominated by yeast, with some dark fruit and barnyardy must. Toffee, grass, and spices round it out. Smoky flavor. Also a lot of sweetness. Musty, slightly bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Good, but lacks the complexity of the better Dubbels.

Pours deep dark brown with a thin, foamy, mostly receding tan head. Aroma of plums, dates, sweet yeasty esters, banana, and clove. Taste is sweet toasted malts with yeasty esters, notes of earthy dusty yeast, plums, pepper, and herbal bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with lush carbonation. Very good!
