harlequinn (2746), Tacoma, Washington, USA Jul 30, 2003 An incredibly well done take on this style. I had 750ml of this one to enjoy. The pour in incredible, the head just never stops, even with the best pour, you only had about an ince of ale, and the rest was a huge, creamy frothy head. The aroma fills the whole room, with the scent of raisins and figs and quite a floral bouquet. This head quite literally has a mind of its own, it just kept growing. The taste is extremely full-boided, sometimes quite complex and others quite vague. Throughout, you get a flavor of sweet brown sugar, cinnamon, figs and raisins. I enjoyed this one alot, but it is definitely one of those that can only be enjoyed once every few months.
swanmann (256), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Oct 5, 2008 It poured dark brown with ruby highlights and tan fluffy head, settling quickly. Sort of a winey aroma with some burnt sugars and cherries. The flavor is slightly sweet and malty with a hint of roasted bitterness and the nice bready mouthfeel. I think it’s delicious and well balanced with subdued complexity. VERY drinkable. Cheers! Svesse (1821), Hässelby, Sweden Oct 3, 2008 (Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 20 Sep 2008) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with dried fruit, raisins, prunes, dark bread and brown sugar. Malty taste with notes of dark fruit, dark rye bread, raisins and a fairly dry, grainy finish. Not very bitter. Nice and well balanced dubbel. frankhedman (2), , Sweden does not count Oct 2, 2008 A typical Belgian beer, good taste and aroma, but nothing special that makes you remember it. timsilvia32 (254), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Oct 1, 2008 Dark brown pour, large fluff of a white head. Some malt and sweet aromas, brown sugar. Taste doesn’t waver too far from the aromas. Sweet malt, brown sugar, raisin. A similar spiciness with a pumpkin ale. A little sticky and clean finishing. Not a fan of Abbey ales at all, but this one I don’t mind. Is not overloaded with fruit and carbonation. lithy (247), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 30, 2008 Dark dark brown almost black and a thin fervent tan head disappears instantly. Yeasty spicy aromas. Lots of visible carbonation. Taste is very light bodied despite the color and not as good as I remember, fails to open up as it warms.
