swanmann (254), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Oct 5, 2008 It poured dark brown with ruby highlights and tan fluffy head, settling quickly. Sort of a winey aroma with some burnt sugars and cherries. The flavor is slightly sweet and malty with a hint of roasted bitterness and the nice bready mouthfeel. I think it’s delicious and well balanced with subdued complexity. VERY drinkable. Cheers! Malty nose with dried fruit, raisins, prunes, dark bread and brown sugar. Malty taste with notes of dark fruit, dark rye bread, raisins and a fairly dry, grainy finish. Not very bitter. Some malt and sweet aromas, brown sugar. Taste doesn’t waver too far from the aromas. Sweet malt, brown sugar, raisin. A similar spiciness with a pumpkin ale. A little sticky and clean finishing. Not a fan of Abbey ales at all, but this one I don’t mind. Is not overloaded with fruit and carbonation. lithy (185), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 30, 2008 Dark dark brown almost black and a thin fervent tan head disappears instantly. Yeasty spicy aromas. Lots of visible carbonation. Taste is very light bodied despite the color and not as good as I remember, fails to open up as it warms.
