AndrewKScott (212), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jun 21, 2008 750 mL bottle bought by my girlfriend for my birthday.Pours a dark reddish brown with fluffy off-white head that dissipates slowly. Aroma is raisins, chocolate, dark fruit, cinnamon, candy sugar. Taste is great: dark, dried fruit, malt, chocolate, vanilla and wood. The candy sugar is apparent in the finish. A lovely dubbel, and a great birthday present. spagyetti (68), Puyallup, Washington, USA Jun 20, 2008 Bottle, corked and caged. I’ve been drinking the Donk for many years now, and all I can say is that. This is THE MVP of Dubbles! kiefdog (270), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 16, 2008 35.5cl bottle from World of Beer (Largo, FL). Pours a dark brownish-red with a one-finger, lingering tan head. Reasonable head retention. Smells malty with notes of chocolate, sweet vanilla, prunes, and candy sugar. Light to medium-bodied, notes of roasted malt and wood are prevalent. Some hints of coffee and chocolate on finish. Generally earthy character throughout but a respectable dubbel-style ale. Rciesla (674), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jun 16, 2008 Bottle. Pours a amber brown body with a 3 finger white head. Aroma is sweet malt, dark fruit, chocolate malt, and some booziness. Flavor is crisp and sweet with dark fruit chewiness. Solid beer. durhambeer (292), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 13, 2008 Bottle served in Duvel glass. Very dark but clear brown with bubbly head. Malty sweet vinous and fruity aromas with some smoky and vintage port notes. Really distracted by the palate, which just didn’t do it for me. Too much carbonation... big bubbles, on top of a rather thin palate. Found this quite annoying. Some cola and licorice flavors on the tongue. I didn’t get too much in the way of dark chocolate... a bit of vanilla, though. I almost really enjoyed this beer but the palate distracted me quite a bit.
