Bottle. Orange golden color. Soft flowery hops, malt and stones in the aroma. Citrus in the slightly tart, flowery flavor. Apricot, pepper, even a bit of alcohol. Fruity but fairly dry. Very well brewed and well balanced, actually.

Swaroga (355) - Brussels, BELGIUM - MAY 13, 2012
75cl bottle. Filtered, darker gold color with explosive foam so careful when opening the bottle; The head is big but full of air so dissipates quickly. Nose : Grains and bread aromas. Little cake. Wet laundry yeast scents. Sip : Low density but creamy body. Quite mouthful. Sweet bread like with some esters sourness mixing with bitter hops in the finish. Would be refreshing if the body wasn’t that mouthful. OK.

Brown amber color. Light fruity aroma. Sweetish taste, watery palate with some bitterness. Let down by tart finish.

Amberkleuri, royale kraag die lang blijft. Zurig aroma. Smaakt zoetzurig. Weinig body.

Koud drinken. Mooie dikke kraag.

A good hiss of carbonation upon opening and then a gorgeous clear amber beer with plenty of fluffy white head, leaving good lace around the glass. Aromas are more of amber malt and dried seeds than yeasty qualities. There’s dehydrated apricot and guava in the aroma, but it isn’t knockout enticing. Maybe some spice as it sits in the glass? Perhaps it is more enticing than I give it credit for (so I had better give it credit then). Full carbonation and a fruity, citrus flavour of tangerine, cinnamon, cardamon and nectarine flavour. It’s a bit of a sweety without being sweet but the finish is a little short. It feels tingly and fruity on the tongue but doesn’t have the body or finish of a classic Belgian ale. For all that, it’s a beer I am glad I paid for.

Sep 2011: Dumpy 33cl brown bottle, poured into a Palm badged tulip. Good mid-amber body, clear, bright and clean looking, on top a huge white crown of bubbles. The smells are all about malty molasses and Belgian yeasts, you know instantly this is a Belgian beer: how do they do that? The taste/flavours also are all around the malts and yeasts, the hops, as so often with Belgian brews, is of secondary importance, needed, but not prominent. On the sweet side but not overly so, this is an easy drinking Belgian beer with it’s alcohol content well contained and concealed. The Corsendonk people know what sells, this is a beer that fits the bill completely.
