Cask Stillage from the Outside Marquee at the Prince Of Wales, Foxfield 02/10/2010 Floral and some roast aroma. Bronze coloured smooth on the palate and fruity with a hint of dryness in a slightly peppery malt finish.

Cask conditioned at The Turf Tavern, Oxford. Gold with slight head. Sweet biscuity malt, similar to shortbread biscuits, then a bittering hop note, a touch peppery but quite understated.

Cask in the Market Porter. Alround rating: A strange mix of chocolate and pale malt, its massivly hopped with grassyness and a bit of lemongrass. Gee its soo bitter!

Bottle. Bronze and hoppy. Medium head but thankfully did not explode on opening like some BCA’s do. Well balanced bitterness.Definitely worth seeking out.

Cask handpull at Market Porter. Copper, ginger biscuit, gingery hop on end. Quite toffee on the malts. Actually pretty well balanced. Bitterness on the tongue on the finish. Maybe diacetyl but definitely strong malts to balance the hop.

Cask @ The Market Porter, pump clip stated 4.5% ABV. Amber with an off white head. Sweet chocolate and caramel malts with a slight floral, gingery hop character. I expected a more bitter hop but Ian explained this is common with green hop ales, I was less than impressed...by the beer, not Ian’s explanation ;p

Mungo (2472) - Southampton, Hampshire, ENGLAND - OCT 30, 2007
Cask conditioned @ Live & Let LIve, Cambridge. Golden. Sweet slightly syrupy malts. Spicy hop flavours and resiny but not enough balance to balance the malt sweetness for me.

500ml bottle (bottle conditioned). A gusher! The first pour produced barely 1cm of liquid in a pint glass, the remainder being taken up by foam. The bottle continued to overflow while I waited for that in the glass to subside sufficiently to pour some more. Eventually ended up with a huge spume of frothy head composed of large, loose bubbles. After all that commotion the beer was, not surprisingly, murky with quite a coarse yeast suspension. Orange/amber in colour. Fruity, estery yeast aroma with a distinctly funky, farmyardy edge and hints of sulphur. Surprisingly reminiscent of a Belgian Saison. Not at all sure that was what was intended but I found it quite appealing. Plenty of citric & resinous hop character on the palate, together with sharp, juicy fruit. More tart than bitter. The tart impression is reinforced by the lasting, lemony, aftertaste. Mouthfeel is light, tending towards astringency. There may not be any such style as English Farmhouse Ale but, if there was, this would be it. I’m sure I would have enjoyed this more had it been better behaved.
