draft, served frigid cold. a bit fizzy and rough, but much fuller flavor than the factory lagers in Costa Rica. a bit of chewy corn, and it’s estery, fruity and mildly crisp. moderate bitterness is welcome. watery late, not bad overall, only some light corn syrup and huskiness gets in the way. moderate notes of cooked sweet corn and plastic / petroleum develop in the nose with warmth. also begins to get a tad sour, more husky and rough, with mild sour vegetable bitterness.

This is the crisply hopped, golden and refreshing one, made partly to convert the locals and expats over to more flavorful ales. A transition beer, they call it. Yet I’ve seen a lot of locals drinking the ruddy, bitter Segua instead, all of them apparently craving something, anything, different. Meanwhile I’ve got a sort of crush on the Libertas instead. Grassy, classy, dry and sessionable. We’ve only just started seeing each other, but I feel good about where the relationship is going.
