2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 MesandSim (7118) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 21, 2007
A Mes rate:
Gravicask at Kent Beer Festival. Looking at the other rates by people whom I often share an opinion I can only summise this was in poor form. Nutty, very mellow and rather bland with some tea to round it off. Not my thing at all.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 berkshirejohn (3648) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - JUL 5, 2007
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2008 500ml bottle from Waitrose. Copper coloured with a peaky off-white head; stewed fruit aroma; slightly sour at first then developing a rounded caramel body; harsh bitter finish. Rather unrounded.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Gr0ve (2039) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUN 14, 2007
Brown colour and a little cloudy. Plummy caramel. Grassy earthy hops. Gentle hop bitterness. Long lasting hop flavours and bitterness. Cacao flavours. A bit sharp on the palate with some rough edges. Unpleasant aftertaste with some rather harsh hop flavours for the style.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 larsga (5325) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUN 14, 2007
Big beige head. Deep red slightly hazy body. Aroma of tobacco, caramel, tea, and plums; quite harmonic. Deep, dry cocoa taste with notes of peas. Aftertaste is dry cocoa. Very nice. (0.5l bottle.)
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Rastacouere (6045) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 1, 2007
Akkurat Cask Now that’s fresh smelling. Fine ingredients extraction: mellow earthy hops soaked into spicy parsley, herbal, wooden astringency from the above average bitterness that bears a certain saltiness. In terms of appearance, the yellowy head lasts atop the clear deep caramel body, bright-coloured. The finish, dry, lasts a long while. Medium to full bodied, firm texture, by far my favorite Cotleigh up to now.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 tarjei (1954) - Bryne, NORWAY - MAY 26, 2007
50 cl bottle. Copper color - nice, fast vanishing beige head. Sweet roasted malt, caramel. Fine bitterness. A bit thin, but a very good «low-alcohol» ale.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Gethinbeer (1822) - Musky, Nova Scotia, CANADA - FEB 5, 2007

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Sigmund (4205) - Tau, NORWAY - DEC 29, 2006
500 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Copper coloured, large and lingering creamy light tan head, leaves a nice lacing. Very nice aroma of toast, roasted malts, burnt caramel, orange marmalade and aromatic hops. Powerful flavour of roasted malts, burnt toast, caramel, brown bread and nuts. A distinct hoppy and roasty bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. Not a beer of the "easy drinking" kind, but has definitely character. I might have liked a tad more sweetness to balance the bitterness, but this is still an excellent beer. As the beer warms up, the malts come even more in front, and the bitterness is somewhat less dominant.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 dj (440) - Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - JUL 30, 2006
Bottle, 500ml. A dark copper-coloured pour with a small lasting head. Great aromas of roasted malts and sweet caramel. Roasted malts dominate the beer with some hop, honey and biscuity notes. A nice roasted malt finish with moderate bitterness. Very light carbonation. This is a great, complex, exciting brew!
