(Bottle Conditioned). Way eazy drinking , malty and aromatic brew. Huge ass white foam top above amber. Hop buds,flowers,spice and roast malt ..dusty caramel . A little thin in the mouth , but good ,sinkable flavoursome ESB.

500 mL bottle from Tesco into a pint glass. Dark red with little head. Smells of hops and chocolate, nice. Chocolatey, sweet and light. Its nice, but not a world beater.

500 ml bottle cellar cool served in a chalice. Beautiful deep chestnut brown body with a white head which rapidly disappeared. citrus and resin in the aroma. I really wanted to enjoy this, and admittedly, it had more going for it in texture than the same brewery’s Golden Seahawk which I didn’t enjoy at all, but I got the same woody wet carboard and paracetmol flavour, albeit with some toffeeish malt. This, for me is not a great signature taste. Overall, drinkable, but not enjoyable.

Brown 500ml bottle, best before end of March 2012, drank fairly fresh on 17th Jan 2010. Poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard. Not sure where this came from, but it has an American importers name on it and refund prices for the US, as well as the Government Warning. It must have been intersepted before it left the UK! What beautiful looking beer! Great reddy, deep rustic brown body, clear and bright. Minute bubbles rising up to the wonderfully formed light tanned foaming head which sits like a crown on top. Good heavy lacing on the glass as I ploughed my way through the brew. Toffee notes in the nose and semi-sweet molasses from the malts. The malts rule the taste challenge, the hops only arriving later as the mouth drys. I thought the mouth dried very quickly, leaving a hop bitterness in the throat. The brewery claim it has "a smooth malty bitter sweet finish" on the rear label, can’t agree with that. OK the dryness could be a mix of maltiness and hops combined, but smooth it wasn’t. I liked it greatly, looked and tasted like a good quality product.

Cask conditioned handpump High Cross Leicester. A brown beer with a whitish head and lacing. Nice orangey fruits in the mouth together with a little choccy malt. Thinnish in the nose. A little fruit perhaps but this has a lovely flavour profile.

Cask at The Archibald Simpson, JDW, Aberdeen. Pours clear amber with a creamy, off-white head. Toasty leaves and woody malts in the aroma. Light sweet flavor, crisp bread, leafy bitterness. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Dry, woody bitter finish with lightly toasted malt sweetness. OK.

Bottle from Ales by Mail. Toffee malt aroma & flavour. Medium dark brown colour, good head. Bitter aftertaste. Decent bitter in a nice bottle.

I tasted this bottled from asda. Dark brown with a toasty, stouty smell at first. Flavours in some way similar to a dark mild but quite heavy in the mouth and with an extra tang - reminiscent of soy sauce or balsamic and not at all unpleasant. Ever so slighty sweet.

First tasted this in Gabriels, Paisley in March 1997. Cask, hand pump dispense. Clear pale amber in colour with a thick foam white head. Fresh cut grass in the short aroma. Thin resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt base gives a digestive biscuit base laced with tart goosebery fruit. Hop resins present in the grassy, bitter aftertaste. Finish is bitter sweet with citric fruit and weak caramel notes. An ok session bitter.

A fantastic ale,coppery color ,with a malty body.Notes of dried fruit, toffee and nuts.Not very hoppy, but really great.
