COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask & Bottle Conditioned;
Originally brewed to support the Royal Marines 40 Commando base in Taunton and to celebrate the units return from deployment in Afghanistan, this beer is now enjoying widespread acclaim.

A number of Royal Marines from Termoli Troop 40 Commando RM, tasted the beer and commented "It’s a great beer that has an explosion of flavours from hops to fresh fruit, far safer and far more palatable than ones we are used to. Hoofing is a Royal Marine slang term used to describe most things fantastic i.e Hoofing dancer. This beer is certainly that ... Hoofing!"

Donations from the sale of bottled and cask beer will be given to the 40 Commando Welfare Fund for the rehabilitation of Marines and their families. Further donations can be made care of Cotleigh Brewery with cheques made payable to "Central Bank 40 Commando RM".

Available nationally as "Commando Hoofing" this beer is also available with regional branding (e.g. "Somerset Commando Hoofing" & "Lympstone Commando Hoofing") and as "Adam’s Hoofing Hut" in support of the charity of the same name.

Tasting Notes

An explosion of flavours originating from cascade and Styrian hops. A refreshing pale golden beer with a fruit filled finish.
Ingredients
Pale and Crystal malts, Cascade and Styrian Hops.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons as Commando Hoofing. Amber with white head. Quite a smooth malty beer, a touch of roastiness, quite flat though. Reasonably bitter, it’s trying hard to overcome a good Spooning, but doesn’t quite last the distance. Not bad for £1:65 though.

Also is named ’Commando Hoofing’, it has a very off-putting malty aftertaste.

Crosse Keys Spoons. As Commando Hoofing IPA. Clear gold beer, tiny white head. Smooth semi dry palate. Low carbonation. A little citrus orange is swamped by a turgid dusty taste. Finishes dry. Pretty grim.

Bottle.Tried as Commando Hoofing. No matter what you call it this is not a very nice beer, Pale and insipid looking with very little flavour. It came in a clear bottle which never impresses me. The contents were not very impressive either.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell as Cotleigh Commando Hoofing IPA. Amber with a loose cream head; fruity aroma; sweet fruit malt flavour; a dry biscuity finish with some green hops. Pleasant enough as a fruity bitter, but not an IPA.

Hand pulled cask at the Moon Under Water (JDW) Watford. Amber /gold with an off white head. Unmistakable Cotleigh corky house yeast character (which I can’t say I’m a fan of) but generous hopping masks this after a while.
