Gold Medal Winning classic old style porter brewed with the addition of flaked barley. Dark and bitter sweet with hints of nut and liqourice from roasted malt. A long creamy and mellow fullness on the finish. Brewed with Pale, Black, Brown and Crystal malt with whole wheat, Fuggles and Challenger hops.

Bottle Sainsburys. Nose of roasted malts, hops, spicy dried fruits and cream. Pours a dark brown beer with a small reducing head. Taste is pleasant if a little simple for a porter. Plenty of roastedness but the taste seems to stop half way through the enjoyment. Not bad but I’ve had much better.

Bottle, 5% alcohol, not 4.4%. Pours dark brown with a huge beige head. Berries, hint of chocolate and smoke aromas. Dark fruit flavours blend well with smoked malts to give quite a dry finish. Body could be fuller. A good effort.

Almost forgot this one. Bottle from ASDA grocery store in Weston-Super-Mare. Bottle conditioned, which is a big plus. Classic dark appearance and tan head. All the flavours you would expect, plus a hint of smoke. Calmed my nerves while staying with family!

Bottle from ASDA. Near black with a decent tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, plain chocolate and a whiff of smokiness. Smooth drinking with a sweet malty flavour and a bitter finish. A good bottled beer.

Rich syrup aroma. Dark red in colour, almost black with no head at all. I must say it doesn’t look to pleasing. Flat texture with a rich fruity flavour. Not the best porter I’ve tried.

Bottle conditioned, 500ml. Dark brown with creamy head. Dark malty rich flavours, thick with a treacley character and a coffee bitterness. There is a nagging acidity in the beer, quite medicinal but overall a very decent beer.

Flavours are coffee malts with chocolate sweetness and dark chocolate bitterness. Some liquoirce with herbal, medicinal notes. Hints of vegetable matter. Fruity and peppery towards the finish. Very good.
