This strong ruby red coloured ale is brewed to a tradional recipe, using English hops to create a fruity palate and impressive bitter flavour.

On Handpull at Peter Kavanaghs, Liverpool, 28-11-08. Pours dark brown. This beer tastes quite nutty with dark sugars, malt and a slight citrusness running through. Yet again another fine if unspectacular beer from Cottage. A6 A3 F6 P3 OV13

Cask conditioned handpump Lamplighter Northampton. I didn’t see the word ’Bristol’ on the pumpclip but the beer was 4.8% and surely not even Cottage with have two beers so similar so my rating goes here. Cola like colour with an off-white head. A warm malty beer with fruity notes. Has an old ale feel to it. Sweet and pretty good.

Cask conditoned at The Woolpack, Banbury. Chestnut colour with white head. Tea like fruity dry flavours, reminiscent of Greene King. Chestnut nutty. Oh dear.

[Cask at the Nags Head, Reading.] Amber with a thin off-white head; spicy hop aroma; light body, fruity malts and a hint of orange flavour; peppery finish.
