Cask handpull, The Crown, Nuneaton. Chestnut with a thin beige slick. Stewed, earthy aroma; mushroom dampness, raisin and apple. Hints of Flemish tang and biscuit, clove and stewed apple, pleasant earthiness, poorly ventilated cellar. I quite like this brewery; their beers are never bland and always seem to have some spicy, yeasty interest. Beer of The Day, but it’s early..

Cask, handpump at The Talbot, Uplyme, Devon/Dorset border (just in Devon) 02-4-10 Pours mid chestnut with an off-white head there is a slight haze and a touch of reddiness also showing as it gleams through. This is a bit nutty and malty in the mouth, there is a slender bitterness, bit of toffee, its ok but nowt to get excited about. A6 A3 F6 P3 Ov12 3.0

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), 3/4/10. Amber in colour with a decent white head. Aroma of earthy malts, apricot and a touch of caramel. Sweetish flavour with more fruit and a dry, slightly ashy finish. Good.

Cask conditioned at The Woolpack, Banbury. Brown to amber with white head. Mid roasted malts with a sweetish body and fruity undertones, similar to a few other cottage best Bitters. It’s fine but not great.
