Cask at the Kings Head W2. Golden bitter, small white head. A fairly generic golden ale, with hints of grain, a tiny bit of a spicy yeast and some gentle hopping. Pleasant (if unremarkable) on the first day of summer (in late July).

UPDATED: MAR 19, 2012 1)Cask handpull, The Crown, Nuneaton. You’d be justified in expecting a beer called ’Goldrush’ to have at least a trace of US hops..but this is Cottage remember, so you’d be wrong.. Heavily buttered hay aroma. Red gold with no head, still condition. Vague shortbread, strawberry jam notes..strong aniseed and Bertie Bassett as it warms. Pretty dismal.
2) The Crown, 18/03/12. Bright and brassy with a white foam. Red apple yeastiness, apricot aroma. Strawberry and apple-like fruit, clean buttered grassiness, always sesame. Good finishing bitterness. Bit out of the box for Cottage. 637313.

UPDATED: JUN 8, 2006 500ml bottle. Reddish copper colour. Faint US hop aroma. Seems a bit flat to me. Quite nice and juicy in mouth. Think this was a bit of a dodgy bottle, because it has signs of being very good.
Cask, handpull at Scarborough Hotel, Leeds. Gold with thin white head. US hop aroma. More aromatic than most. Quite good balance. Grapefruit hop on end. US hop aroma, quite astringent in mouth, some lime. Could do with more malt.
