UPDATED: MAR 1, 2006 Half pint pulled at The Lower Red Lion in St Albans (Hertfordshire), a dark amber with a filmy head. A strong malty aroma, slightly tartish. A delicious chocolate malt flavour with a good smooth mouthfeel.

Cask@The Drum, London. Deep amber colour, smalll beige head. Aroma is nutty, dark fruity, floral and also some mild herbal and malty notes. Flavour is similar, but has the dark fruits and nuttyness coming in stronger than in the aroma.

Cask at The Drum, Leyton, London. Hazy chocolate brown. Mid sweet with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Chocolate aromas spill over into flavour. Mild and pleasant with caramelly malt and fairly low bitterness.

Cask-conditioned at the Kings Arms, Didmarton Gloucs, 30/4/08. Pale chestnut with a slight off-white head. Red fruit and caramel aromas followed by slightly sweet, fruity malt flavours. Some bitterness in the finish which brought balance. A good beer.

Cask conditioned at The Woolpack, Banbury. Dark toffee with white head. Fruity, full beer, certainly within a mild character, sweetish malt flavours then a hint of hops on the finish which adds a little body. Good beer.

Cask at the Swan in the Rushes, Loughborough. Dark ruby coloured with a slim creamy white head. Sweet and malty with some nice light bitterness in the finish.

Cask at Royal Oak, Ockbrook. Wonderfully malty stuff; deep brown, sweet nose, burnished flavour, very enjoyable.

Market Porter, Xmas London Crawl. Dark. Sweet. Winter Warmer. Liquid sugar with a little touch of hops bitterness. Lovely.

Deep ruby brown colour. Aroma is spicy and fruity, with a solid malt background. Much the same on the palate, with distinct raisin notes. A sweetish beer. Cask (handpump), Market Porter, London SE1.

Toffee aroma. Dark brown with a tan head. Sweet dark fruits in flavour. Fruitcake. Medium sooth. Great.
