3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 thebeertourist (4060) - Oslo, NORWAY - SEP 21, 2011
Cask at The White Horse, London. Deep golden with a small head. A bit spicy nose followed by bready spice flavours. A touch of earth and chocolate in the finish. Quite nice.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 dnas2 (705) - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - MAR 15, 2009
Cask handpump at The Bree Louise, London. Dark copper with a thickish dense head. Quite earthy, biscuit malt scent. In the mouth there’s burnt hop and toffee. Quite sugary with only some bitterness. Leaves some stickiness on the palate. Good but would be better with a little more balance.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Ethereal (2399) - Los Angeles, California, USA - MAR 9, 2009
Cask at the Magpie & Crown, 5th March 2009 with tashi. Rich deep brown colouration. Very malty, like a Scottish heavy. Good weight and very drinkable. I had several.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 imdownthepub (7473) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - SEP 29, 2007
Cask conditioned at The Woolpack, Banbury. Dark amber with white head. Largely flavourless beer, although hefty doses of caramel are apparant, sweetish and hugely boring. Little finish, hard to describe really as there is nothing offensive either. Bland.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 DJMonarch (9152) - Northwich, Cheshire, ENGLAND - JAN 25, 2006
1. Cask Handpump at the Helter Skelter, Frodsham 10/05/2001
Pale and sweet tasting.
2. Cask Handpump at the Head Of Steam, London 05/08/2004
Mid brown amber colour. Some sour fruit and a crisp lasting malt finish.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Mungo (2472) - Southampton, Hampshire, ENGLAND - JUL 9, 2004
Cask conditioned @ JDW, Soton. Mahogany coloured. Nuts, coffee, malt and a hint of alcohol. Verging on thin with a roasty bitterness and hint of acidity. Growing sweetness lifts the beer and prevents it boring.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Spiesy (2336) - Sydney, Greater London, AUSTRALIA - MAR 1, 2004
Cask Conditioned, at the Wenlock Arms, London. Dark brown with sweet ruby, strawberry malts. Mellow malt flavour, which has deceptive length. Very nice old ale. Cottage Metropolitian.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 chriso (7065) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 2, 2004
Oh lordy, what have we here but yet another Cottage beer in the Head of Steam. One day I will go in there and there will not be a new Cottage beer. Then I will eat my hat. On the plus side, I didn't find this as bad as Silk Tork did. In fact I found it quite inoffensive. However, I do expect rather more in the way of character from a strong bitter. Uninspiring, but drinkable. Nothing much else to say really. Handpump, Head of Steam, Euston, London NW1.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 SilkTork (4736) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - JAN 24, 2004
Cask Fresh @ JDW Watch House, Lewisham. Picture of underground steam train on the clip. The appearance and taste are pretty much what it says on the clip. The fruit is interestingly woody and rancid, which adds some character. But the whole thing is loose, inaccurate and not well integrated. There are similarities here with some of Harvey's ales, but without the skill and balance. The greasy sweetness accumulates unpleasantly as drink progresses.
