COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From the breweries of Colorado and the Pacific Northwest comes the winter tradition of a hearty brown ale that finishes with a strong hoppy taste. Made with a blend of Crystal Malts, and balanced with Centennial and Columbus hops, the frostbite was aggressively brewed to warm the beer drinkers in the southern Appalachian Mountains. Brewed as part of our new "HIGH COTTON" line in 2006, the Frostbite will be allowed to show it’s true colors- brewed as a High Gravity beer under the new NC law- this fine ale tops out at about 9% ABV.

Poured a clear dark amber with a small off-white head. Citrusy and piney hop forward that almost covers the malty base. Decent strength to the citrus and piney hop flavor. Light to medium bodied. Moderate to strong hop bitter finish. Some warmth.

Bottle from Beer Run. Pours a hazy dark red with a medium sized fizzy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of plums, toasted malts, floral hops. The taste is plums, apples, anise, raisin, toasted malts. Bitter hop finish. Medium bodied. A little bit weird.

UPDATED: JUN 7, 2011 June 4, 2011; 12 oz. bottle from a recent "beer of the month" subscription received as a gift. First experience with this brewery. Pour is dark amber; not much in the way of head or lacing. Aroma is sweet & rich. Pleasantly complex - a lot of caramel malt, spice, ripe citrus. Some hops (a wee too little) and very mild alcohol notes linger at the end. A pretty good ASA experience.

On tap into a pint glass...A medium caramel, a light tan head, poor retention and lacing...A very malty caramel with a hint of hops, not strong enough but decent...The taste is also very malty to start but then hops do start to present, especially on the finish. A bitter but alcoholic finish is slightly distracting. A malty but decent ipa.

Draft at brewpub in Charlotte airport. Clear dark amber poured with a thin ring of a head. Nice color though. This beer is much like their IPA, but stronger. Its alright, but just entirely too mundane. There is a resinous bitterness, but no really juicy or bursting hop flavor. Some sticky and crystal malt. Also, I have had 12 percent beers that taste less alcoholic than this, and this clock in at under 9%. Overall: boring and not deserving of its description on the menu. Regardless, still not a bad beer, just underwhelming.

Understated aroma of sweet caramel with a grassy hop accent. Clear copper, thin yellow head. Flavor is surprisingly varied with caramel, overripe orange, and nutmeg. Sweet at midpalate, but otherwise rather dry and bitter. Finishes with lingering and delightful peanut shells. Alcohol is very well concealed. Mouthfeel is powdery to the point of being a major distraction. Pretty nice.

medium reddish brown with large tan head. Nose of citrus hops. A ton of low crystal sweetness that overpowers the hop component with relatively high residual swwtness, poor version of a heavy crystal/winter ipa

Drank from the tap at the brewery. Interesting aroma of caramel, pine and hops. Taste is a leafy hop flavor that fades into a biting finish with a hint of caramel. Didn’t like it at first but as it warmed up a little it grew on me.

Thanks, Cheeseman! Amber with a tan head. Malty with a little bit of hops. Easy drinking.

bottle via trade, sampled 4/1/07. Pours a deep dark clear amber with two fingers of thick pillowy white head that sticks around well. Smells of big sweet heavy malts, some sharp floral bitterness. Taste shows lots of sharp floral notes, dark sweet fruity malt backbone, toasted dark bread, toffee, and some alcohol heat. Palate is balanced, if a bit on the sharp side, with brisk carbonation and booze in the back.

Pours a dark red with a brownish tint with a decent amount of white head. Aroma of malts, spices, caramel, hops. Flavor is hoppy up front, piney, with some wintery spices, caramel, malts some citrus. This taste more like an IPA, but with some added spice. Medium body, medium carbonation, a little dry. I thought this was a decent winter seasonal. Not my favorite though.
