SuzyQ (3), Tampa, Florida, USA does not count Dec 5, 2002 The aroma was peaty without being smokey (a plus to me), the color was nice and dark and very clear. The beer exhibited good head retention and was very easy to quaff. The overall flavor was fruity with good malt and no hop characteristics. Had a few while "iced in" at the Charlotte NC airport. Have only had on draft, can’t describe packaged goods. Falconseye8 (522), Cartersville, Georgia, USA Mar 14, 2005 Roasty and chocolately, This might be the best Cottonwood Brew I’ve had. Maybe the Scottish Ale’s just hit me in the right spot. This is very very good. Nice malt and hop mix. Great flavor and a smooth drinking beer. Another great Beer courtesy of North Carolina’s finest, Ross. Traded twice with Ross, #3 I’m sure won’t be that far away in the future. I really liked this. I think you will too. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Jul 2, 2003 Unique dark brownish-red amber color, that of cherrywood or mahgoney or even the color of the bottle it came in, and glows bright orangy highlights up to the light. Received a thin tight off-white head that faded in seconds flat. Has some spotty lace. Sweet tangy aroma of caramel and toffee, somewhat fruity, faint banana note noticed deep in the back on bigger wiffs. Taste is sooo smoooth, and lightly tangy with a slight sweet toffeeish covering through to the middle of mostly malts then thins out to nothing. Feel is medium-full bodied and slightly creamy-buttery smooth and some super light drying at the finish. This scotch ale is one super easy drinker, would make for a good session beer.
Overall, it needs a bit more of a boost in flavor/taste and feel, its a little to light in both, but still good. layyze (28), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 25, 2004 Very smooth ale. Thicker than I wouldv’e liked for something in the summer. Had nice malt flavorings. Good brown color. 19641948 (492), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Sep 4, 2006 From notes 3/24/03:
Creamy. That’s the one description I couldn’t get out of my head while tasting this. Creamy. An all-malt Scottish style ale with all the thickness and creaminess one could hope for. The aroma is heavy with malt scents. Heavy enough to wonder if you are in the brewery’s inner lair with the aroma of freshly cracked malt in the air. The smell just screams "brewery tour". Impressive. The all-malt taste is slick and malty, with a divine creaminess that slides down your throat. The inside of my glass is not only laced with each sip, but the most recent sip has a wonderful upside-down "v" shape that proves to all you are drinking this beer. This occurs with every taste. Pretty. The aftertaste is smooth and, dare I say again, creamy. No hops to be found here, but in a Scottish ale, that’s OK by me. Creamy malt goodness.
