3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at home in Salisbury - aged a few years. Pours cloudy brown with a tan foam head. Simple malt character with light tangy fruit notes, toasty bread and faint earthy bitterness. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with some and dry toast, along with caramel and basic bread. OK. Worked well in my chili recipe.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark brown liquid with a small beige head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of roasted malt with an intense dark fruit character. Flavor is more roasted malt with notes of prunes and molasses. Very lightly carbonated. Full-bodied and complex . Very slight smokiness in finish.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle, which opened suspiciously easy. I feared a flat pour, but it still fizzled relatively normally. The dark red beer carries a warming caramel-sugar aroma, and drinks like it could be caramel sauce on a sundae. (#5011, 5/9/2013)

12 oz. bottle at Rye & Thyme - Leominster, MA. Brownish black color with creamy 1 finger nail size, diminishing off white head, no lacing. Nose is malty and light peat. Chewy caramel sweetness with lots of peat, some traces of smoke, bright fruitiness and a slight alcohol burn. Just the right amount of peat. Overall I really enjoyed drinking this and I would drink it again if offered.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Mellow Mushroom, Charleston, SC. Fairly bright deep amber pour, moderate fluffy carbonation. Mild spice and peat amidst a sweet caramel malt nose. Mouthfeel was a bit slick and heavy in places, but not too inappropriate for the style I guess. Taste was not especially distinct, with just modest spice and nuttiness popping up occasionally, never really enough to deter from the one-dimensional caramel sweetness.

1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
On tap at the bocktown. Darker brownish looking beer. Has a somewhat volatile aroma of whiskey soaked fruit. First taste makes me think of a barley wine. Peat and cloying sweet. Almost induces a gagging effect. Each swig is the same impression, never morphs. Difficult at times. Not impressed. Typical scotch ale, rude and strong. Not my fave. Thought it was going to be a scottish alle, was fooled.

A weird aroma with some wood and metal. Looks good, dark amber with a red tint. The flavor has the metallic touch and some wood, a bit of caramel. The finish is a bit thin.
